If that's what the game is moving towards, isn't it coaching malpractice to not train it?
Either way, eventually there will be another reset. Ball-handling leniency/strictness is always cyclical.
I agree, more teams should train it. I don't hate it but refs are still learning to call it properly and consistently. Some of the players that use it a lot get away with taking the ball across their body on inside tight sets that should be called a lift. If should be called with the same standard that the hand sets are called. Some refs have a hard time seeing this. Hopefully time will improve this. That's my main issue. The "prolonged contact" on these dumps and throws is getting out of hand. This might be one of those where you have to allow the Paid R2 to make a call as well. Since they might have a better view at times. I wouldn't want the kids or other coaches doing it but if at Nationals and we have a Paid R2 maybe it'll help.

Pro international refs don't know how to call them either!

Is there still not a date for 2025 Nationals yet?

Is there still not a date for 2025 Nationals yet? AAU usually does it after the event. Because they only use one convention center they don’t need to release as early as USAV does. USAV gets contracts with CC years in advance. I’m sure AAU has a rolling contract with OCCC. The staff was in a convention center for an entire month, so I’m sure they took a few days off.

The signs at the convention center said AAU Nationals was going to be June 13th to July 7th 2025. So same dates just ends on Monday next year.

AAU typically does not pay officials as well as USAV. I have officiated some qualifiers and have officiated AAU Nationals, give me USAV events all day long. I do think AAU needs to set some type of rule for officials that they cannot work all sessions or even 3 straight sessions. The officiating in AAU is always suspect in general, but when you get officials who are officiating for a month straight every day, it’s only going to get worse as the days go.

This is an extremely poor take. Not only did AAU significantly raise their rates for this past AAU championships but limiting officials to only three is short sided at best
That rule will affect the boys tourney the worst if limited as most all officials will then do the first three sessions and bail for USAV girls nationals
Yes doing that many days can be long but if you officiate quite a bit and knowing the break schedule and not being on the stand for 90%+ or matches at qualifiers makes it fairly easy.
