Does anyone have any good info on Cabello? Is there a possibility she gets to start over Glock? Both teams in the 2023 championship match are running 5-1’s off of freshman setters. Obviously the portal is still an option (allegedly DBK asked Logan Case to come play for us after the WMU match and she said no) but I wonder if Cabello could be our starter? can u elaborate more on what u heard about Logan case lol that seems a little strange to ask a player who's not in the portal to come play for you as for cabello, she's considered one of the top setter recruits in her class (so was glock) but have no clue how she'll transition to the next level. what's working in her favor is that she doesnt have to beat out an elite player / all American in order to start. Glock has a lot of weaknesses compared to other top teams setters also I think its huge that cabello will be on campus in less than a month. She'll be able to get fully comfortable with louisvilles system and hopefully dbk will be able to iron out any bad habits

Maybe if anything a sign that DBK is looking into options besides Glock.

Doubt DBK made the offer to a kid not in the transfer portal (Although Logan's parents own the volleyball club Logan came from so there is probably more familiarity with them then a regular family). My understanding is that Cabello ran a 6/2 in club and she hit in the front row. Pretty athletic kid I think Cabello will absolutely have an opportunity to win the job or they may go with a 6/2. Basically everyone is back except for Aiko and I would say that's bad news for Glock since more of the same probably won't work for DBK. Before everyone jumps on me, I do understand they had a great season and an elite 8 appearance is great. I just think the team won in spite of the setting due to the great talent on the team as a whole.

Not sure how legit it is as info.

Trying to go back into the threads to find it/who said it and of course VT search functions are failing me. *shrug*
For the record I don’t think Case was given a legit offer nor do I think DBK is doing anything shady with the portal. It was VT speculation as per usual - I only mentioned it because I (and many others) hope DBK is exploring multiple options for setter in 2024, whether it be through the portal (abiding by all rules of course) or through our new incoming freshman recruit.

That’s shady af id be really surprised if this true. she's running too big of a program to be acting like that and not having been caught yet. I bet if anything she personally complimented case after the match, which is very common, and someone who saw them speaking made the rumor. her players wouldn't want to play for her if she was doing stuff like this

I’m excited to watch her play.

I count 12 scholly’s on that roster but does anyone know if NIL is a thing at UL? If they get a kid who resides in Ohio or IN I think they can get in state tuition . Maybe get a Covid senior to come w/o a scholly and see if NIL bridges the gap. Wishful thinking I’m sure. im not sure there's 12 scholarships there. I think the players definitely on full scholarships are : luper, pk, debeer, glock, cresse, robbins, cabello, utterback, petersen, Scott that makes 10... other possibilities for the final 2 are schrand, Bankston, and Sherman. Bankston and schrand could easily be on a two year deal that doesnt start until their junior season. I would guess Sherman is on scholarship by now so I guess I'll say 11 total. dbk hasn't gone into a season without a scholarship open for a transfer since she's been at Louisville, im sure she's got something up her sleeve Bankston is 4 year scholarship

Who do yall think is playing RS next year? Ik Robbins was subbed in when Louisville ran a 6-2/for a blocking sub but she's originally a middle barring any transfer it'll be robbins. she was recruited to play right side from the start What’s interesting about Cabello coming in is that she is a setter who also can hit from the right. There’s a possibility for a 6-2 scenario where Cabello sets in the back row while Robbins plays RS, then when Cabello goes to the front row she hits RS and Glock sets for 3 ro. There’s two potential drawbacks with that version of the 6-2: one it puts a lot of pressure on one freshman to set and hit. But also, with Wisconsin’s loss in the Final Four, I think there might be some reluctance for any top team to run a 6-2 next season. DBK clearly didn’t want to run it this season and only did on an as-needed basis (much to the chagrin of many - I still think Petrenko deserved more of a chance to set). Personally speaking, after this year’s tournament performance there’s no way Robbins is off the court, nor is Cresse. But also I don’t see a veteran like PK getting benched to move Robbins back to middle - especially when we’re lacking depth on the opposite pin. So I think either Cards run the 5-1 (with either Glock or Cabello setting full time) or a 6-2 with Cabello (or maybe a transfer opp) hitting from the RS with Robbins. If I had to bet, DBK sticks with the 5-1 and slots Robbins into Aiko Jones’ starting spot.

Louisville with a FF and final 8 in the last 2 seasons is a program that is among the elite right now. As a Kentucky fan it pains me a bit to agree with you but Louisville has it rolling right now. Love your coach and how she is building the rosters. Maybe Kenny Payne should spend some time with her. Big opportunity for Louisville in 2024 with the Final Four being at the Yum Center. For that matter big opportunity for UK as well. Would love nothing more than for there to be a sea of Red and Blue in the Yum Center. Just think UK has some bigger holes to fill than UofL.
