volleytalk.proboards.com/post/3743262/threadVolleyball Mag posted a feature on the best HS players by state, and Iowaās is none other than Payton Petersen. āIOWA ā Payton Petersen, 5-11 Sr. OH, Dike-New Hartford (Dike) What new can be written about Petersen, who will graduate as one of the most impactful players in Iowa history? Three times over her four years at DNH, the daughter of Northern Iowa head coach Bobbi Petersen led her Wolverines to a 2A state title. Three times she was named Most Outstanding Player at the state tournament. In 2023, the Louisville signee helped take DNH to a 50-0 record, capped by a finals sweep of Hinton in which she had 20 kills. Petersen, who was our pick for POY last year as well, finished 2023 with 616 kills over 110 sets, plus 333 digs, 36 aces and 35 blocks. Petersen was named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Elite Team and was recognized as its state Player of the Year.ā 50-0 isā¦. wild. Petersen has made Iowa history and Iām so excited to see what she does in Louisville.

Thereās been little to no portal rumblings out of Louisville - at least I havenāt heard any major tea. Moorer to Texas State was not surprising, super happy for her. But Iām definitely shocked that there havenāt been any portal pickups. We usually have one. I thought for sure weād be getting a setter.
Obviously thereās still time, Luper announced her commitment in early January 2023. Thereās also another portal window in the spring, but it doesnāt seem like the Cards are interested in any of the big portal names right now. Iāve been checking IG follows, reading the tea thread, and Louisville really hasnāt come up much (relatively speaking).
I think the coaching staff is confident in the strong freshman recruiting class coming in. It probably also helps that 6/7 of our starters are returning and we have a strong RS in Robbins to fill in for Aiko. It feels really nice having that much continuity, especially after losing three key players after 2022.

How long do we keep Mr. Meske? I wouldn't surprised if he's waiting for cook to leave Nebraska, which means dbk leaves, and then he takes over louisville. He'd be the most obvious choice for the job imo, everyone knows cook's seasons are numbered lol

He'd be the most obvious choice for the job imo, everyone knows cook's seasons are numbered lol We are not so sure DBK is a shoe-in to take over the program. Many feel strongly about Tyler Hildebrande who is now head coach at Long Beach State as you probably know. He was an Assistant Coach when Nebraska won the NC in 2017. His team beat Texas in August of this season 3-1. From Long Beach State website: āHildebrand spent three full seasons on the staff at Nebraska over the course of five years, reaching the Elite Eight in all three campaigns. In 2017 during his first season at Nebraska, the Huskers would win the NCAA Championship behind All-Americans Annika Albrecht and Mikaela Foecke. Responsible for the Nebraska defense in that season, the Huskers led the Big Ten in opponent hitting percentage at .154. Returning to the squad in 2020, the Huskers made the Elite Eight in the COVID-19 impacted spring season. In 2021, promoted to Associate Head Coach, Hildebrand helped the 10th seeded Huskers on a deep run to the National Championship match, where Nebraska fell in five sets in a hard-fought battle with Wisconsin. During that period, Hildebrand also spent two years as a team consultant while he went through his second Olympic cycle as the Director of Coaching for the USA Volleyball Beach National Team. In that role, he was responsible for identifying and recruiting athletes to join the Beach National team as well as working with the four Beach teams that represented the United States at the Tokyo Olympic Games.ā So thereās hope you can keep DBK? sorry for length of post.

I want nothing more than to keep dbk, but I know its not going to happen. while im sure hildebrand would be another contender, dbk has proved herself WAY more than he has as a head coach. in his second (or third?) season his team still isn't in the tourney, dbk took a team that didnt make the tourney and had them in the elite 8 in her second season and now has cemented a top 10 program. Time is ticking for Tyler to get some big results if he wants to be more enticing than dbk cause it doesnt look very close rn lol

I could see him retaining Jalen Reyes, if heās not a head coach by then, who is credited with securing many recent Nebraska recruits. Just discovered this: Hildebrand was named to Volleyball mags Hot Shot coaches list Dec 29th. This was in the write up: Hildebrand earned the nod to the impressive group after taking the reins of the Long Beach State Women's Volleyball program and leading the team to The Big West Championship match in 2023. In just two years at the helm of the Beach, Hildebrand has totaled 40 wins and owns a winning percentage of .678. He was also instrumental in leading LBSU to its first 20-plus win season since 2016.

DBK was also the AVCA Coach of the Year in 2021. That year Louisville went -undefeated- in the regular season. Their only loss was in the Final Four of the tournament to eventual champion Wisconsin. Louisville has made the Elite 8 or better every season since 2019 (except for the COVID season tournament). Louisville has churned out multiple all-Americans year-after-year and thatās a direct result of the recruiting and coaching. Iām sure Hildebrandās a good coach, and both having ties to Nebraska will obviously factor, but DBK has proven that she can successfully run a Top 5 program with national championship aspirations, and sustain that success across many seasons and with different teams/rosters. Thatās not something Hildebrand has shown (yet anyways). Itās certainly possible that DBKās loyalties now lie with the āVille and Hildebrand gets the job, but if weāre comparing resumes alone I donāt really think its an even comparison.

I still think DBK gets the job if both apply. When DBK secured the āno buyout requiredā if she leaves for Nebraska clause, she obviously believes that she has it. Ā Cook said last year in an interview that he wanted to coach at least through the first year of the expanded B10 conference. So thereās time to ponder. And apparently Cook also promised this upcoming senior class that he will coach them until they graduate so that will coincide with the first year of the expanded B1G. I think there will be more talks or rumors when the 2024 season ends which is only one year from now.

DBK > Hildebrand every day of the week. The only way DBK doesnāt get the Nebraska job is if she doesnāt pursue it. As respectable as Hildebrandās tenure at LBSU has been thus far, it pales in comparison to the accomplishments of Louisville. DBK is Nebraska-born, a national champion at Nebraska, and one of the most respected names in NCAA volleyball right now. Again, no shade at Hildebrand, but it doesnāt seem to be much of a competition. If Nebraska plans to continue their dynasty certainly they choose a proven head coach with multiple conference championships, all Americans, top 8 finishes, etc.
DBK is šøš»
