Last week, the Louisville VB instagram shared a video of Cabello and Utterback on campus, but not the other two freshmen, so it seems like Petersen and Untiedt are not joining the team for the spring season. I assume they’ll arrive over the summer. I believe, based on a later IG post by VB that Untiedt is there now as well. Peterson is apparently playing for her HS basketball team...and doing well, it seems. I think that was just their official announcement of her joining the program... pretty sure she is a walk-on. She's still playing her 18s club season right now

I, too, was thinking walk-on, but my understanding of the "rules" around walk-ons was that they officially joined the program when they enrolled at the school. In other words, there's no NLI, so no "official" announcement gets made until enrollment, but I, as always, could certainly be wrong in my understanding.

As far as transfers go the rumor mill says Louisville is interested in Maldonado Diaz The freshman I think that has the best chance at starting is Cabello. Tbh I wasn’t impressed by her during the UA game but it could have just been an off day. As far as “go to” players I don’t see much change from 2023 to 2024

I don’t really understand the role that Maldonado Diaz would play on this team. Would she be able to beat out Luper or DeBeer for a spot? Would she be there for depth if one of them were to be re-injured? Maybe if the plan is to redshirt Petersen… but even then we have Bankston and Utterback?
I didn’t watch Arizona a ton but I know she’s a great player and of course we’d be happy to have her, but IMO it feels like the last thing this team needs is another outside hitter, especially one with only one year of eligibility left.

The OHs we do have are not physical enough to be good oppos for a final four team, which is what we're trying to be this year more than ever lol

She’s listed as an outside hitter on Arizona’s roster.

there might not be a lot of crossover between Louisville watchers and people that have seen Sofia play but do yall think Louisville would be best with Sofia 3.5ro, Sofia 6ro, or Reese 3ro at opposite?
I have a feeling if Louisville won’t offer a 6ro spot, she’ll be headed to ASU to play with Ung.

I have a feeling if Louisville won’t offer a 6ro spot, she’ll be headed to ASU to play with Ung. This is tough to say, not just because of unfamiliarity with Sofia, but also because Louisville has a lot of L/DS’s who haven’t really seen the court yet. Schrand was subbing in for Aiko Jones early last season, but throughout the season and in the tourney Aiko went from playing 3.5ro to playing 6ro and Schrand stopped seeing as much court time. Drapp and Urban both redshirted and haven’t played in a match yet. And now Untiedt is coming in as well. I’d have to imagine that with having five littles on the roster, DBK would want to get at least one of them on the court regularly besides Scott. Someone’s going to have to start prepping to fill those shoes. DeBeer and Luper both are likely to stay 6ro, so I think subbing for the right pin is probably the best option for floor defense next season. An offer for Sofia to play 6ro. seems unlikely IMO, but I’m curious if other Cards fans (or people who have seen Sofia’s backrow play) feel the same way.

I have a feeling if Louisville won’t offer a 6ro spot, she’ll be headed to ASU to play with Ung. Louisville won't offer a 6-ro spot, she'll have the opportunity to earn tho the way others have. dbk always says how she tells transfers that they have to beat out the competition if they want to play. If she's looking to be offered a starting spot or anything more than to simply be apart of the team, she won't like her visit to louisville lol if she ends up at louisville, her playing 6 will depend on how debeer / luper are passing and whether or not they need help. Last year, schrand wasn't really any better in receive than luper and debeer so there wasn't much of a gain having her in so they went with aiko who could hold her own defensively and swing from the backrow obviously. As a louisville fan, I'd like to see one of the DS's to step up and pass well enough to be given a spot. Glock setting on the run can be hard to watch sometimes lol
