Radio broadcast finally came up. Not seeing anything from the Facebook link for video I had to sign up for the video...$12.99. Some positives thus far. Still runs against us when we seem to get in control, but definitely better things happening. Blocking looks much improved. LOVE that Phills is starting at OH! So much potential and some very smart plays thus far. And Ammeraal is so impressive! And we hung on for victories in first two sets (each 25-23). That sure did not happen much last season. Let's close this out in 3! |

Hawks sweep Liberty. 25-23, 25-23, 25-15. Nice start. Again, some encouraging things: blocking, Whittingstall, serve receive still not as consistent as we need but seems better, Ammeraal, Phills, Worden in backrow, closing the two close sets, hit .327. GO HAWKS!

Looks like Iowa has Liberty tomorrow. Liberty has some good returning players. Not an easy match for the Hawks. I’m betting Ammeraal the setter has a triple double within the first 5 matches. She is a beast. Almost did it in the 1st match!! Claire the setter is different! Wow! 12 kills (.550). 22 assist, team hit .327. 3 aces. |

On a night of traditional upsets, this was a great win for the Hawks. Liberty has some good players with experience.
Great hitting numbers and they had 9 blocks in 3 sets. Much improved. The 12 kills by Ammeraal led all hitters from both teams. 8 was the next highest. When was the last time a setter did that?

Claire Ammeraal leads all hitters from both teams in kills again. 2 matches and she’s the kill leader. Iowa with 12 aces and 11 errors. Especially good with it looks like 3 jump servers (topspin).
1st match Claire has 4 kpg and hits .550. 2nd match she has 11 kills and hit .358. Crazy numbers for a setter. And the team is hitting around .275 overall.
Good weekend ahead against Delaware, who played very well this weekend. San Jose won all their matches.

I watched the streamed Puerto Rico video. Nice camera work and even an announcer. Although I turned on Jon Evans radio broadcast on YouTube to hear him.
Some take aways:
Phills is a major surprise. Had no idea she was that high and terminal!
Galles and Ammeraal make the Hawks so much better.
Urquhart also shocked me on how well she attacked. Super high IQ player.
Our serving is way better than I thought it could be. I counted 3 jump servers with topspin. All 3 did a great job. Then great float serving from Urquhart/Worden/Galles.
