First set 25-10 Cyclones
13-1-22 .556 for Iowa State 5-4-18 .056 for Iowa
I think Iowa got one, maybe two serves in bounds that set.

Iowa started set 2 looking a bit better, and held on until about 12s or so. Now ISU is up 18-13 with Iowa looking a mess - like they all just met ten minutes ago.

Concerns (many): another horrible, flat, tentative start; non-existent blocking (other than Whittingstall in 3rd set)...and we're talking not just low # of "actual" blocks, but even very few block touches to slow ISU's offense at all; back row slow to react and/or identify shots; left-side lacks consistent terminating ability; huge amount of service errors, many of which are coming from serves that aren't even that aggressive; lack of any apparent adjusting to slow ISU's talented left-side OHs; lack of energy unless they get momentum somehow (frequently through opponent's errors)...have to find way to make that the other way around: need consistent positive energy to create momentum...this includes from bench and staff
Positives: Garcia Garcia Garcia...fearless and scored from both left and right sides; Worden serving (6 aces...wow); Deery came in for struggling Phills and did nice job; they didn't give up after an absolutely horrific start to the match and showed signs of potential in 3rd set
They have to (and should) sweep this weekend.

There just aren't many options to go to for offense & this team can't afford to give away points at the service line. My prediction of 12 wins might be too generous 🤷

What are expectations for the next matches? As a "B1G is best" fan, I have to think Iowa is going to come out on top. Milwaukee will be the hard team to beat. As a "Tommies after Gophers" fan, I'm pulling for St Thomas. (Apologies for the Tommie-Centric poll in the tourney thread, btw)

I literally cannot even comment on the match itself, so will only say this: Claire, we all sure hope you are ok.

Watching the replay, it looks like her foot might of tangled up with Whittingstall coming down from the block. Seriously hoping that its nothing too serious and she can return to play soon.

Anyone have any updates on Ammeraal? And for what it's worth (attempting to focus on positive things here ), I have been impressed with how Meitzler has jumped into things. The Hawks are fortunate to have a 2nd setter with her level of talent and fearlessness.

Ankle sprain but it doesn't sound like she'll be back soon. Fairly vague about a timeline for returning
