Nice 5-set win, Hawks, against a strong South Dakota team who has beaten both Missouri and Iowa State this season previously! Showed some promise tonight.

Just saw the box score. Really good win for the Hawks. South Dakota is playing well. I counted 5 freshmen and 3 transfers playing for Iowa. The freshman setter Meitzler had 7 blocks in her first win and 6 blocks in this win. Another good athlete at the setter position for the Hawks.

In the spirit of the Hawks being in desperate need of more terminal hitters and more offensive production, here is an update on 2025 OH commit Gia McGrew (link to nice article about her below). Looks like she moved back to Florida from Oklahoma for her senior year in HS and is tearing it up there! Also, I noted the reference (quoted below) in the article to her intention to graduate early so she can join the Hawks for the 2025 spring season. We can't get her onboard fast enough! www.wruf.com/headlines/2024/09/11/gia-mcgrew-santa-fe-high-schools-newest-sensation/"She plans to graduate early so she can continue the family tradition of playing college sports by starting her academic and athletic journey at the University of Iowa in the spring of 2025." Excited to see you on the court in black and gold soon, Gia!

This looks like a rough year for Hawkeye fans and players. PLayers are going to need a lot of love and support.

Former player update Ortega: Bailey Ortega lead the SEC in total assists (468), ranking in the top 10 in NCAA Division I volleyball! Good for Bailey! Other updates on former Hawkeyes: Nia Washington leads Ole Miss in kills, as does Addie VanderWeide at Hope College. Looks like Kaia Mateo has had very limited court time at Rice. Toyosi Onabanjo is off to a great start at Kansas. Appears Amanda Darling is still out with injury at Cal Baptist. Kacia Brown getting moderate amount of playing time at New Mexico State. Wish all of them the best. Hoping an energetic, upbeat and fearless Hawk team shows up from the get-go tonight in a winnable B1G match.

Way to go, Hawks! Has to feel good to get this one in 5 and get a B1G "W" under their belt for the first time in a long time! Garcia had a monster match (17 kills, 9 blocks, 8 digs) and kudos to Gabby Deery for coming in and making a massive impact: fearless swings at key times and such great energy, which was clearly contagious. Galles was all over the place in back row (23 digs) and Meitzler was impressive in her distribution and poise for just being tossed unexpectedly into the season (double-double). Urquhart also with a double-double and some very clutch and skillful serving.
Let's enjoy this one. GO HAWKS!

That dump by Meitzler to end it was filthy. Congrats Hawks!

Agree that this is an extremely hard prediction with so much unknowns. Although it feels like this team has way more talent and it seems the program is ready to start moving up. This prediction is what I think they are capable of with this schedule. Non- conference, they could go 10-2. Conference is obviously much harder but I think they are capable of 6 wins. So possibly 16-16. Anything is possible, but Iowa was 0-20 in conference in 2023 and were not competitive. In the final 9 conference matches they failed to even win a game. How are you “capable” of winning 6 matches this season? Who are the teams you believe you can now beat? Barnes appears overwhelmed and is not recruiting B1G level players. Hmmmm...guess Rutgers and Maryland on the road, for starters. GO HAWKS!!

Haven’t watched many Iowa matches since the Buzzerio days, but I was loving the fight that the team showed this weekend. Malu Garcia was so fun to watch against Rutgers. She’s got that competitive edge and fiery way about her!
