Not to anyone's surprise but a huge emphasis this spring has been passing and defense. Individually and collectively.
Lot of pin depth in the gym to sort out. Several players have been moving pin to pin. Hard to imagine Safi not playing LS this year. Thorpe is really good. Coaches did a good job so far in transfer portal with the ones signed and here.
Still hearing that we are favorites to land a solid Libero transfer that has already visited.

Impressed with the talent level UNC has going into 2024. Spring ball will tell us something, whether they can all form a strong team chemistry together. Regardless the depth will be an important factor in the ACC.

UNC and Duke split spring scrimmage 2-2. Duke wont set 1 and set 3 25-21, 25- 15 UNC won set 2 and set 4 25-19, 25-14
We played everyone. Our opposites look really good. Both Thorpe and Yardimici are solid additions. Shaff is Shaff and Safi is def OH2. Her and Emani will prob share time but Safi cannot sit. She had some unreal kills.
Engelbrecht can be an all conference middle. She is physical and can move really well.
The two sets we lost was due to the back row being in shambles bc of who was back there. We desperately need better DS than Carson and our even Marissa looked rusty.
Zoe set really well but bled some points on the block. I heard coaches say we will run a 6-2 when Eisert gets here in summer.
All in all offense will be much better this year. You can already tell. Defense still work in progress.

Not a bad showing. I’m excited about the right side and new middle options. The question is if our passing will be good enough to use those new options. With good passing we could play faster and should play faster. While it looks like the front row improved, I think we are still really going to struggle next season unless they pick up someone else for the back row. Out block is not strong enough to make up for the back row. Oh, and must play 6-2.

We are most likely picking up a really big back row addition in May/June.
Also, Blocking will get better as they get more reps this spring but Jackie Taylor will vastly help there. I think she may take Sadie's spot.
I agree that defense will be our determining factor. Like the past few years, ceiling is high but all depends on the back row.

I hope you are right about the back row. As you know I’ve been struggling to understand why we haven’t done that last year. Taylor does look really good. Sadie got some competition.

Well also Marissa got to set some in the scrimmage because we have no other setter...so imagine how that went LOL Sadie will not be a lock at all. Her offense is still sporadic. Taylor will be the most well rounded middle (although undersized) on our roster. IMO the lock is Engelbrecht.
