I’ve watched her play club. Not impressed that much. Where is the info that she is one of the best in the country coming from? Maybe she had a bad day when I watched and even if she is one of the best why is UNC not bringing her?! It’s tiring to keep asking the same questions why UNC can’t attract the top local talent, but we bring talented players from elsewhere and can’t keep them. Without a major change in program (coaches) and university support we ain’t going anywhere. As the roster was. UNC was probably not recruiting 2024 setters at the time. Times have obviously changed. I may be missing something but none of what the new coaching staff did makes any sense. They brought in a grad setter who they first made to set and then made her play opposite, while bringing in a freshman setter that I take was a walk on. While they didn’t bring any libs. It would have been much better planning if they had brought a grad setter when Ella left, and then recruited a setter in 2024 which is 2 years behind Babic, like is typically done. Now we are left with one setter and a hole at lib position. We can’t get out of our own way

Maybe they had their eye on someone and they got nabbed up during the change?

In my mind, that would be a hard no. Maybe she wanted to be closer to home? That move does not make much sense to me unless there was an off vibe at UNC for her this year. If Nolan wants to play at the pin, then cincinnati makes sense + being closer to home. Cincy big issue this past year was at OH. They lost both starting OHs to injury within like a month into the season this year. Jumping in this thread to just update myself on Tar Heels. I read Nolan to Cincy too and makes no sense to me, they were really bad. If she wants to play pin then maybe that adds up.. even their pins that got hurt weren’t good enough, they use that as an excuse but this pins had okay numbers in the preseason again horrible competition. Hope Tar Heels can rebound and be competitive in this new look ACC

I hope I eat my words, but I just don’t see it 🤷♂️. Have we not learned from our false hope over the years?

Both Ro and Sydney appear to be going to their school closest to their home towns. Not sure if somethings “wrong” at UNC versus players wanting to go home. Obviously could be both since the coaching change happened after they signed.

Mike has been here for 5 years prior so it’s not like it was a complete unknown for him what he needed. But May played at Triangle so it smells like favoritism to me. Look at how much media coverage she gets. It’s sad how things are being run so we shouldn’t be surprised when good players leave. We as a nationally recognized university deserve better.

After that, Jadyn had to take on a bigger role and then she was out a few weeks later. Idk if it's fair to say that the pins weren't good enough when they never really had a chance to settle into their roles before one of them got injured. With the new additions in the ACC, things are going to be tough.

I think everyone was hopeful with the coaching change, but the season was so horrendous and their player recruiting and who they brought were the dumbest decisions I’ve seen in a long time. The system (or lack of it) in my view were the triggers for the players to say it wasn’t worth it. I think all 3 players that left didn’t want to deal with off vibe in the team created by the new coaches, and not even mediocre volleyball while away from home. It is highly unlikely that all 3 players suddenly got so homesick if everything was all right in our program, is what I’m trying to say.

North Carolina has already picked up at least 2 good players from the portal. It might be 3 already, with more possibilities still in play. Under the current rules I think every year will be like this at a high percentage of power 4 programs.

UNC now follows Arica Davis from MN. She follows back. Would be a good get!

We picked up wrong players in my view.

Under the current rules I think every year will be like this at a high percentage of power 4 programs. Disagree. I think this is the last year of the crazy portal process. With the extra Covid year ending, I seriously doubt you see this as a high percentage at Power 4 programs. Maybe the elite ones (i.e. Texas ,Nebraska, etc.), not at UNC. I would want UNC to focus on the future, not a one year one and done. They will have to pay the piper after this year if they load up on Grad Transfers. One could argue that they are paying the piper this year due to grad transfers last year.
