Do whatever you can to become Mulkey’s stylist. Someone needs to get her off of the Rainbow Brite aesthetic. doing some research lol, i kinda live she looks like a rival coach from glee or something I don't think I've seen a post-game conference where the coach just flat-out refused to make a statement. Not even any perfunctory congratulations to the other team. Imagine if Dawn Staley just sat down and said "I'm good". The internet would be up in arms about how that's poor sportsmanship etc

Rare, but I've seen it. Hard pressed to recall specific names though.

My sense of the past decade or so has been that D1 WVB was making major strides and was going to surpass Women's Basketball in terms of attendance and TV ratings/revenue.
I'm now thinking either I've been wrong all along, or women's basketball has really stepped up and in many regards is leaving WVB behind.
Thoughts?

It’s all Caitlan Clark. A phenom like Jordan. WBB will recede to previous numbers. VB will continue to increase because it is the sport that is the attraction and the sport won’t graduate and leave.

It’s interesting Okay, I just looked it up because I saw a clip of her talking about Caitlin Clark on ESPN from the press conference. So she just skipped the opening statement, but she still addressed the questions. I guess I just don't see why that really matters. There have been coaches who straight up skipped the press conference altogether (Mick Cronin did this recently). Mike Tomlin recently walked out of a press conference before a reporter could even finish asking a (very fair) question. To me, those are way worse than a coach not wanting to bother with an opening statement and just moving on to the questions but still taking them.

Mulkey has been a household name for a long time. Second only to Geno.
None of those other names are packing arenas like Clark. It’s a flash in the pan. VB is the real deal.

I would probably think it's more of an issue if a coach only has an opening statement if they win, but never if they lose, but even still.. I guess it's not a big deal either way in that scenario.

Quite honestly, it's really Caitlin Clark and whomever her foil is. It all started as Caitlin vs Your Logo. Angel Reese made herself into a convenient villain, but it really was Clark and only Clark who brought the star power to another level in the women's game with her flashy passing and shooting. Put it this way - Clark has the impact of Larry Bird, but Reese - despite being the best player in the national championship game last year - is no Magic Johnson. Too bad, because Juju Watkins or Hannah Hidalgo, given a few more years growth and the right situation, could both have been that player - or Paige Bueckers with two good knees.
Anyway, bringing it back to volleyball, we just don't have a sport which makes stars like that who can go viral on Twitter and YouTube (though I do love me a good Ishikawa highlight reel). And since ESPN, the main driver of sports media, loves making stars and then cashing in on them, ESPN doesn't see the potential in volleyball, thus their perennial snub of our sport.

My mother, who to my knowledge has never watched a game of WBB in her life, tuned in to Iowa v LSU to watch Caitlin Clark. She is that girl
