My sense of the past decade or so has been that D1 WVB was making major strides and was going to surpass Women's Basketball in terms of attendance and TV ratings/revenue. I'm now thinking either I've been wrong all along, or women's basketball has really stepped up and in many regards is leaving WVB behind. Thoughts? And when people ask if the women's championship will have more viewers than the men's championship, here's the part they are leaning on... The women's final is 3pm on Sunday afternoon on ABC. The men's final is on TBS at 9:20 on Monday Night. According to wikipedia, ABC is available in 305 million households and TBS is in 71 million households. If it's Iowa vs undefeated South Carolina it's going to be another big number.

These numbers are about Caitlin Clark. She has been selling out arenas all season. When Iowa played at NE I could have sold my ticket (center court and 10 rows up for about $400. No one else is doing this and certainly no one individual in VB.

No one else is doing this and certainly no one individual in VB. Clark's influence seems like Bird/Johnson for NCAA MBB. We'll see if it continues--if the sport's ratings continue when she is gone. I'm not a huge fan of WBB--but Clark is must-see TV and the game between Iowa and LSU was phenomenal and now to watch Clark and Paige B. from UConn.... What WBB has going for it that college men's bball doesn't really-->recognizable names and personalities and that COULD continue with freshmen like the one at USC and the one I like watching (Crooks at Iowa State)

Women's sports in general is taking off. What CC has done for the sport in her time at Iowa has been magical. The great thing about it is that she, Reese and this class of seniors are leaving the game better than they found it. I, a lover of women sports PERIOD, found myself immersed in this season with all of the stories and athletes. When women's BB wins, so does VB and other women's sports and vice versa. The numbers aren't just about CC, it includes the other teams that were delivering high quality games night in and night out (SEC is the equivalent of B1G in WBB). It translated into fans wanting to see CC play and learning about other players/programs along the way. And when you add in the Pac-12 teams delivering maybe their best and also final season season, it was a recipe for magic. I am here for all of it!

I don't think Women's college Volleyball has a bad girl/villain as disliked as Angel Reese. The good v evil storyline helped. I know Reese probably was unfairly vilified but it went along well with the hype. Maybe Cook is unlikable enough- plus Landfair, and that will get the ball rolling this season.

I used to hate watching women’s basketball until Caitlyn Clark. Now I am obsessed. Loved the LSU-Iowa game.Oddly I could care less about the men’s side of the division.

What happens if more viewers watch tonight’s game? Or the final? I think it’s all about Clark. Not any rivalry. It’s about the best college player to ever play, packing all arenas and tv screens.
Also, LSU arena seats just over 15,000. They averaged just over 8000 fans. Iowa’s arena is just over 15,000. They sold out every game. And almost every arena on the road.
IT AIN’T ABOUT REESE.
