Is there now or has there ever been a VB equivalent of the rivalry and media attention being heaped on Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese? The media attention and hype over an Elite Eight match-up in the women's basketball tournament seems extraordinary. Has there ever been a VB matchup that equals this kind of attention?

Lexi Sun vs. Texas in general maybe? I don’t think there’s ever been this extent of a personal rivalry in volleyball, at least in recent history. Lol maybe VVG vs Luper but to a much lesser extent?

Get that kind of media attention, in vb? Absolutely not.
One matchup came to mind pretty quickly: Hodge vs Hooker.
Not sure what would have to happen in volleyball to get anywhere near the coverage bball gets. Probably something really bad off the court.

If they are talking pure basketball these two shouldn’t be compared. It would be like comparing Jordan to Dwight Howard. Also, I think this attention to WBB is a one time thing. With Clark gone it recedes to prior numbers. Volleyball on the other hand has been rising rapidly because of the sport. Not an individual. VB will continue to take over as the choice for women.

😭 Half of VT’s posters heads would explode if NCAA WVB had prolific trash talkers like Clark and Reese.

Women’s basketball attendance numbers still dwarf volleyball. There’s a lot of ground to make up.

After Maddy Skinner and Texas beat the crap out of Nebraska in the National Championship game, a pissed off Harper Murray GAURANTEED that she and Nebraska would win the next three in a row. And Maddison Skinner is coming back to lead Texas in their quest for three in a row. That as close as I can get.

Not sure there's a vb equivalent to Caitlin Clark alone, let alone the rivalry of her and Angel Reese.

Nope. 💗
i think in terms of pro volleyball, brazil vs cuba's semifinal in 1996 comes close.. but honestly i would say brazil/cuba's animosity is much stronger then clark and reese's (both players seem to respect and even like each other a lot, but brazil and cuba literally hated each other LOL) and they definitely didn't have the same level of media attention. they made a good ass documentary about it which you can watch here:

We had the best two players--Sarah Franklin vs. Madison Skinner this year and that wasn't really the story of the match. (Nor do they really go head to head at the net most of the time)

The Reese vs Clark hype is hilarious since they both say to the media all the time that there’s no beef between them. Reese tweeted Congrats to her when she broke the scoring record.
The media’s obsession with pitting them against each other honestly just feels like an extension of America’s absolute obsession with race from an outsider’s perspective.

I think it’s hard for a genuine rivalry or even trash talk to really blossom in volleyball the same way it does in basketball, given the giant net between the teams. Most rivalries and trash talk in basketball stems from physical contact and fouls called or those that go uncalled. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
