How does Utah look to the eye test? Is jardine playing? Meh. Good team, but Top 25 quality? I don't think so ... not right now. Their mostly veteran team barely got by an inexperienced Colorado team in 5 sets in their own gym. Colorado isn't a bad team to barely get by, but I would put both of them in the 35-55 range of D1 schools right now. Their schedule and results of other opponents have been good to them so far, but they may be exposed a little as they play more Big 12 matches. We will see. They have a history of getting better by November. Jardine has been playing and has been more consistent than last year.

The Colorado @ UCF match has been rescheduled for October 13th at 10am.
That will be 3 matches for Colorado in 6 days that week, and all of them being away from home on both sides of the USA -- thousands of miles traveled. That will be hard on their bodies and minds.

Offensive Player of the Week Melanie Parra, TCU, OH, Sr.
Defensive Player of the Week Mary Shroll, Arizona State, L, Gr.
Rookie of the Week Faith Frame, Cincinnati, L/DS, Fr.
TCU’s Melanie Parra (offensive), Arizona State’s Mary Shroll (defensive) and Cincinnati’s Faith Frame (rookie) earned weekly league recognition for their efforts during the second week of Big 12 action.
Parra led the Conference with 5.83 points per set and 5.22 kills per set during the week. The outside hitter from Sinaloa, Mexico helped the Horned Frogs pick up a road win over Houston and a home victory against then-No. 14 Baylor in front of the second-largest crowd in TCU history (4,094). The senior recorded double-doubles in both matches while averaging 2.89 digs per set and adding a career-high six blocks against the Cougars. This is her fourth Offensive Player of the Week honor this season, just two away from tying the Conference’s single-season record.
Shroll captured her second weekly accolade of the season after leading the league with 5.71 digs per set in week six. In the four-set win over Utah, the Tempe, Arizona native notched a match-high 23 digs before adding 17 digs in a sweep of then-No. 20 BYU. Shroll has had 18 straight matches with double-digit digs and has helped the Sun Devils climb to No. 13 in the AVCA/TARAFLEX poll, their highest rank under head coach JJ Van Niel.
Frame averaged 4.29 digs per set, tied for the seventh highest among Big 12 players, during a week in which Cincinnati swept UCF and played Iowa State to four sets. The freshman from Gretna, Nebraska posted a match-high 17 digs in UC’s sweep of the Knights on the way to collecting her second Rookie of the Week honor this season.

No game thread for Iowa State/Houston so ill put it here. Both teams dealing with injuries this season and Nayeli Gonzalez just went down. Iowa State already without Maya Duckworth and Pam McCune tonight.

My team is hurting but we will keep our heads high.

Offensive Player of the Week Kamryn Gibadlo, Utah, OH, So.
Defensive Player of the Week Mary Shroll, Arizona State, L, Gr.
Rookie of the Week Reese Ptacek, Kansas, MB, Fr.
Gibadlo totaled double-digit kills for the 11th and 12th time this season as the Utes tallied a pair of top 20 sweeps over then-No. 17 TCU and then-No. 18 Baylor. The sophomore posted a .309 hitting percentage with just seven errors on 55 swings while averaging 4.92 points per set and 4.00 kills per set. The outside hitter from Cave Creek, Arizona is the first Utah player to earn Big 12 volleyball weekly recognition and has guided Utah into the AVCA/TARAFLEX Top 25 for the first time this season (No. 20).
Shroll repeats as the Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week and collects her third overall weekly accolade this season after helping the Sun Devils take down in-state rival Arizona and Texas Tech to improve to 5-1 in league play. The libero pursuing a master’s degree in business analytics totaled 60 digs in the two matches, including a season-high 32 in the four-set victory over the Wildcats. The 2023 AVCA All-Region member’s 8.57 digs per set led the league during the week and ranked third nationally while her 28 digs against the Red Raiders are the most in a three-set Big 12 match this season.
Ptacek racked up 21 kills and 10 total blocks after earning back-to-back starts for the first time in her collegiate career while helping the Jayhawks collect road sweeps of West Virginia and Cincinnati. The freshman’s .690 hitting percentage (No. 3 nationally for the week) and 1.67 blocks per set led the league during week seven while her 4.50 points per set ranked eighth. Ptacek joins Zoey Burgess as the two KU student-athletes to earn the Rookie of the Week honor so far this season

Arizona for sure is on the bubble. Colorado is going to probably need to win 6 of their last 11 to make it. Favored: West Virginia, Cincinnati. Underdog: BYU, Utah, Arizona State, @tcu, @ Baylor Tossup: Arizona, Kansas State, @ Iowa State, @ Houston
