Big12 Players of the Week:
Offensive Player of the Week Jordan Wilson, Arizona, OH, Jr.
Defensive Player of the Week Claire Jeter, Arizona State, MB, Gr.
Rookie of the Week Avery Scoggins, Arizona, S, Fr.
Arizona’s Jordan Wilson (offensive) and Avery Scoggins (rookie) joined Arizona State’s Claire Jeter (defensive) to collect weekly Conference volleyball awards following their efforts during the 11th week of the season.
Wilson led Arizona with a league-leading 6.00 kills per set and a .324 hitting percentage during the week which included a victory over then-No. 8 Kansas. In the win over the Jayhawks, the junior set a career-high with 37 kills, the most by a Big 12 player this season and the second highest by a player in a five-set match nationally this year. The 37 kills also tied for the third most all-time kills in a single match in Wildcat history. Wilson is the first Arizona player to win the league’s Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Jeter tied for the team lead in blocks with seven to help ASU get a win over KU to move the Sun Devils into first place in the league standings. The middle blocker then tied her career high with nine blocks against K-State in a four-set win. The graduate student from Missouri City, Texas has helped Arizona State win 12 matches in a row, the fourth-longest winning streak in team history. She also helped the Sun Devils reach 24 wins so far this season, which are the fourth most in program history. This is Jeter’s first Big 12 weekly honor.
Scoggins earns her third Rookie of the Week title in the last four weeks and her fourth of the season after helping Arizona take down a top-10 Kansas team. The freshman recorded 88 assists and averaged 11.00 assists per set (tied for fifth among league players) during the week while tallying a career-high 61 assists against the Jayhawks, becoming the first Wildcat since 2018 to record 60 or more assists in a match. The setter led Arizona with 20 digs in the KU match, recording her ninth double-double of the season.

Offensive Player of the Week Aliyah Carter, K-State, OH, Gr.
Defensive Player of the Week Kate Georgiades, Houston, L, Gr.
Rookie of the Week Faith Frame, Cincinnati, L/DS, Fr.
K-State’s Aliyah Carter (offensive), Houston’s Kate Georgiades (defensive) and Cincinnati’s Faith Frame (rookie) collected the season’s second-to-last league volleyball awards.
Carter repeats as the league’s Offensive Player of the Week after reaching career point No. 2,000 in her 129th match in a Wildcat uniform. The outside hitter became the first player in program history to reach the milestone in the rally-scoring era and second overall. Carter finished with a match-high 24 kills against No. 11 Kansas for her 26th career 20-kill outing along with 13 digs to complete her 33rd career double-double. The graduate student’s average of 5.00 kills per set during the week led all league players, while she finished second in points per set (5.43). This is her 12th career weekly league honor, the seventh most all-time.
Georgiades became the 27th NCAA Division I player to record 2,500 career digs and is the first player to accomplish the feat while playing in the Big 12. The senior ranks 23rd all-time in digs for Division I and has posted 30 consecutive matches with double-digit digs, including 36 against No. 22 TCU during week 13. This is the 2023 Big 12 Libero of the Year’s fourth Big 12 weekly accolade this season, tied for the fifth most in a single season.
Frame posted 24 digs to earn her second consecutive Rookie of the Week recognition and her fourth of the season. The freshman from Gretna, Nebraska posted 24 digs in Cincinnati’s five-set win over then-No. 24 BYU. Frame has tallied double-digit digs in 19 matches this season, with five matches featuring 20 or more digs.

The Big 12 may very well have been the hardest conference to win this season. Maybe not the strongest at the top (tho I’m sure the tournament may prove otherwise), but top to bottom the conference put out a lot of plainly good stuff. Maybe this is what the conference would’ve looked like without Texas, but even the (would-be, see BYU) usual challengers had to earn most wins.

Maybe this is what the conference would’ve looked like without Texas, but even the (would-be, see BYU) usual challengers had to earn most wins. Top 2 teams in the country have to go on the road to #3 and #4 to get to either 19 or 20 wins (aka perfect conference season) in the final week of the season to win their conferences. ASU will get to 17-1, which is impressive and they had the toughest schedule, but they could have won the conference with 16 wins. Having to be quite literally perfect seems “harder”.
