I was on the zoom call that went on today and if there was anything that I picked up the last week is the transparency of shady stuff that goes on in our sport. Apparently the amount of clubs that offer kids prior to tryouts is extremely high.
That is stuff that happens in girls volleyball. I wish it would stay out of the boys game. I guess I was just optimistic that people truly wanted to be better than what we were seeing on the girls side. And I think most of us are.

Basically every kid is offered a spot before the actual tryouts. That isn’t new. I think the part no one wants to hear is Arielle runs the best program in the country and that’s why kids want to fly out for it. Otherwise they would fly out or make the drive to Surf/Rockstar/Balboa. All these clubs have already offered kids to fly out or brought them in to play from out of state or even out of country. This isn’t new. C2 also has formed an all star team for so long but it is only a problem when you win a national championship

This isn’t new. C2 also has formed an all star team for so long but it is only a problem when you win a national championship Concerns were raised when it was C2 in the Midwest. To your point, it happens most when you win. C2’s model doesn’t necessarily allow them to win at the highest of level in the summer. They are true beach players that play at nationals in the summer once it’s warm outside. But again, that model has been a problem. However C2 wasn’t hand picking these kids from the best teams in the country. A lot of them came from the beach. They were not recruiting the best middles in the class, the best libero in the class, or the best OH in two classes combined. My opinion if you want the best talent and think your way is the best way then go coach college. This is youth sports.

It’s not because Arielle is a woman or because it’s her club that is doing this. That is absurd.
It’s bad for the sport. U19 national team kids aren’t going to go unrecruited without her coaching. She took advantage of a flaw in the rules and now it’s hurting her one player that legitimately didn’t have competitive options around him.
I don’t care if it’s Bay to Bay, Balboa Bay, Yorktown, Pace Bootlegger, or whoever. This was an absurd attempt and it’s good the AAU stepped in.
Hopefully Rafa has his appeal approved. But for kids who finished 3rd in Open, sorry but go get better and compete.

Still Bay 2 Bay isn’t the first club to try to take advantage of this rule. If kids have the means to travel for any club they should be free to do so. Rockstar moved a kid out from Spain to be on the 15s team last year. MB Surf a year back also offered Isiah Prettuit from Oregon a spot on the team too. Again, B2B is the only team that actually did it and won. The others fell through. I believe AZ Fear also had a UCI commit from Florida play on the 18s team just for nationals. Again, nothing new but I think the consensus is that B2B is already the top 18s team and, unlike these other clubs, go through with their promises to out of state kids and make it happen. Club directors know it would be impossible to win 18s if they made it happen. another note, I think AAU should do what’s best for the kids. Not what is best for club directors to make their team competitive. One, the kids playing with other top players in the gym is the best personal decision for them. It also gives other top players a true sense of how competitive and deep a collegiate team is. Bottom Line, if kids like Alexy. Roman, and Layton are all on board with making this insane sacrifice, then their local clubs aren’t offering the best service and coaching as B2B

How can people be so naive to think that the kids are going to B2B for their coaching?? That’s a total red herring. They could go to BB and get coached by a NT coach!!!!!!! Or many other options that are closer and more convenient. They want to go there to win and create a super team.

And the rumor is (no idea if true) Bay to Bay would be footing the bill, not “kids with the means to make it happen.” If the kids have those means and it’s that important, they should move to Northern California.

Terrible life lesson too. Arielle preaches about trying to make these kids feel like that she is a great mentor but yet encourages the top athletes (who are playing for national contending programs so obviously those programs are doing something right) that when things get difficult, go elsewhere.
I think they are great coaches. Disagree with their thoughts, but great people and coaches who have put a lot of work into this. But according to her Instagram story, she is talking with her attorney. So it’s getting messy.
Fear has been a premier program in the country. So now Layton magically had a terrible experience according to them? Same with Milwaukee Sting.
Coast is up and coming and has done a lot for Roman if those rumors are true.
This isn’t about grabbing athletes from Idaho, Alaska, Washington.. this is about recruiting the BEST athletes in their position within their class. Please tell me how that grows the game. Convince me on that and I’ll have a different opinion.

They give a %*$# about growing their platform, their brand, and THEIR club. AAU did the right thing.

What happens to the guys that they are replacing? If it's about better coaching and the guys joining are replacing kids who have been loyal and, in your program, doesn't that seem to make it contradictory? Also, they are bringing in guys that are already committed so wouldn't that mean these kids have basically been coached correctly before joining?

So I have a question as a Canadian... Where the !!!!###$$$!!! is all this money coming from? How much does one kid pay for a club season in the states? How can families afford to fly their kid cross-state for a team.
My parents didn't want to drive me 45 minutes when I played back in the day.

According to them, the new kids have been offered positions and their team is done (check her video out from the other night). So are the kids who were planning to tryout on 8/17 already fully aware they won’t make that team? I mean there are so many things that just don’t add up. Their libero graduated and had a hole there. Not sure about the others. Wouldn’t be surprised with a 14 person roster. To those guys who go, what fun would it be waxing everyone all year?

Will this rule change only effect houlihans team specifically within B2B or is this practice commonplace across the entire club?

Not for nothing, but isn't the “backup” on the team committed to Penn State? Still a good shot with that kid.
The clubs in Colorado have put out some good products in more recent years. I don't get all this commotion about having to play by the rules/oh the poor kid.
How about letting him enjoy his senior year instead of having to fly to practices and stuff. He has his UCLA scholarship already.
Your chirp or “you want better kids to play for your club, get better coaches.” Well, it’s time for you to prove that you're a “better” coach by having try to win with JUST a Penn State commit.
