I love that they're selling this as "good for the game" and "growing the game." This is horrible for men's volleyball.
And again, I couldn't care less what club it is, who that club director is, what gender that club director is, etc. Having a kid lose in a 3rd set in a national semifinal match for a club in Wisconsin (see: a solid men's volleyball state, but certainly not as strong as California) and then having that club that beat him and won the national championship pay to have him fly out and play with them is objectively bad for the growth of the sport of volleyball nationwide. Let's take the talent out of a state where the game has been growing, and bring it to the already strongest state.
It's good for Bay to Bay. It's not good for the growth of men's volleyball.
Not being able to play for Bay to Bay or in California didn't prevent Aaron Russell, Max Holt, or Matt Anderson from developing into Olympic medalists and some of the best players in the world.
But good on Bay to Bay for convincing these kids that's what they need to do to be successful volleyball players, even though they were good enough to make the U19 team without that coaching and competition in their own club's gyms.

There is no way that they were approved I find it hard to believe that all those parents would pay to allow their kid to fly out to San Francisco just for attention. Texas, Colorado, Wisconsin, Arizona and San Diego are not convenient to say the least.

Texas, Colorado, Wisconsin, Arizona and San Diego are not convenient to say the least. Committee was formed last week, their tryouts were this Saturday. If a decision wasn’t determined until Thursday or Friday then not sure parents would cancel.

So basically under this new rule all you have to do is fill out paperwork that says, "I just want to play for this club?" Because not sure how much of a hardship it is to play for a team that medaled at AAU Open Nationals.
Hell of a message to be sending to kids. "Hey thanks for helping us win a national title! Now we're going to take kids off of teams you helped us beat and you can go play for our 2s squad."

Messaging kids is their strength, not their weakness!

Looking at the residency appeals posted on page 3 it seems like the super team import issue is a 1 year thing, unless younger than 18's players are involved. I'm not a fan of it but if it's only 1 year then oh well who cares. Play ball.

Word on the street is Roman was at some of the SoCal tryouts this past weekend. Which sounds like the appeal did not go through. Only question mark would now be Aleksey.
