I say we have to name five of the best coaches excluding our own school to prevent total ugliness.

Actually, the ugliness will occur by the omissions by the typical homers/haters - ie. people who dislike Hawaii, Nebraska, or Stanford leaving Shoji, Cook, and Dunning out when the fact is all three clearly belong on the list.

Much like any other sport, to quote an ex multi national champion Oklahoma football coach "it aint the x's and o's, it's the jimmy's and the joe's" or in this case the jenny's and the janes How good are any of the mentioned going to look w/the talent at SE timbucktwo institute for the deaf, dumb & blind? Not to disparge the importance of good coaching, because w/elite talent the right coach can make a difference, but players play the game not coaches.

If dave shoji is so great, and Hawaii has great fan support and university support and all that good stuff, why havn't they won a NC in forever?
That's a serious question, not a dig / flame.

It's simple. If you look at Hawaii's record during Shoji's tenure, it's hard to deny how good Shoji is. Most any list of all-time great D1 records you can dig up will include Hawaii/Shoji in Top 5. Winningest coach # of National Championships # of Final Four Appearances # of Elite Eight Appearances # of Sweet Sixteen Appearances NCAA Tourney won/lost record

I say Top 5 all-time coaches:
Mick Haley/USC John Dunning/Stanford Andy B/UCLA Dave Shoji/Hawai'i Russ Rose/Penn ST.
These coaches are truely the best along with Nebraska's John Cook, but my top five are all much more experience and their veteran coaches than John Cook is.......John Cook is still rather a very very skilled coach and so is Jim Mclaughlin from Washington but I still take my top 5 over anyone elses.......

I also like the Nebraska coach before John Cook, forgot his name....He started the volleyball dynasty at Nebraska. Anyone remember his name?....Also Brian Gimm...from Long Beach State is also a very good one too....
