Yes, I, too, would like an answer to the question, "Has Chance stopped beating his wife?"

1. I know of at least three Seattle University fans who regularly read this forum.
2. Hilbert is new blood? I'm sure he'll appreciate people considering him "young" but he's a tremendous coach be he's been a D1 head coach for about 20 years.
3. McLaughlin is the best D1 coach in the country, bar none.

Well IIRC McLaughlin is the only coach to win it all in both men's and womens disciplines. But to call ANYONE the hands down best coach is ludicrous.

Jimmy Mac is a great coach.. Being a husky fan, he has done amazing things with our program.. However there are other great, great coaches in the sport. And thank god because the sport needs great competition and wonderful games at a high level.. One of the great enjoyments is being able to see the pac ten game and stanford and usc and ucla play here.. Penn state and Nebraska.... Great coaches and great teams... I would love to see Hawaii play here some day and see that team...

With that kind of support, recruiting is going to get easier and asks the question---how long until the AVCA pre season showcase and NCAA finals land in the Emerald city?

as far as recuiting... sucessful washington programs,, ie don james football teams, have always followed the same pattern, for obvious reasons.. work with local schools and clubs to raise the quality of local talent.. get the top local talent and try to get some good recuits from out of state.. and coach the hell out of all of them.. It will always be hard to recruit the cream out of calif or other warmer climes.. So cal girls have great programs in their local area and they are use to the california lifestyle.. very different than seattle.

Hmm, it seems the "double typhoon" you're looking for is only legal in parts of Nevada and is something he's not into. Sorry to disappoint.

Not to disparage the coaches we've mentioned but how many of them are great just because they got here first?
It isn't hard to recruit to UCLA, Stanford, Florida, etc. So just to play devil's advocate for a second...
The challenge of winning conssistent is MUCH greater at smaller programs and its not only possible but mathematically likely that the best coach in the country is still working their way up and waiting for their turn to have a shot at these national title calibur programs. There are coaches who do a great job year in, year out, names like Sheffield at UAlbany, Goldburg at American, Lamb at Wichita, and Dunbar of Charleston, who is about to get her shot with Indiana. You could go down further and look at DIII where Larry Bock at Juniata and Jennifer McDowell at Emory crank out winners every year.
I'm not saying that they are the best coaches in the country but 5 pages into this thread, no one has acknowledged the possibility that the best coach in the country hasn't been on the scene for 20 years, or isn't in a DI power conference.

Just for the record, the definition of "small" programs is very different in DIII than D1.
Admittedly, Juniata and Emory have great volleyball programs and both coaches have done good jobs.
However, if you look at their funding levels, they're at least in the upper middle class, as far as funding for DIII volleyball goes...

How about high school coaches? High school coaches with 25 students to choose from?

How about high school coaches? High school coaches with 25 students to choose from? Ruffda, I don't think anyone would doubt that Ron Kordes of Assumption, Al Bennett of Austin Westlake, or other prep HS and Club coaches do a great job and are better coaches than many many people who are employed at NCAA institutions, BUT the subject reads "Top NCAA coaches" so I have to blow the whistle on you...side out.

All-around great coach--Bobbi Petersen, University of Northern Iowa. Great program, great coach, great role model, and classy person. The complete package.

Does that mean we can mention coaches like Anson Dorrance and Al Scates since "Top NCAA Coaches" doesn't refer to any particular sport or gender? Or... Are you going to give me a red card because those are implied by the thread being in this particular forum?
