Ruffda, I don't think anyone would doubt that Ron Kordes of Assumption, Al Bennett of Austin Westlake, or other prep HS and Club coaches do a great job and are better coaches than many many people who are employed at NCAA institutions, BUT the subject reads "Top NCAA coaches" so I have to blow the whistle on you...side out. Does that mean we can mention coaches like Anson Dorrance and Al Scates since "Top NCAA Coaches" doesn't refer to any particular sport or gender? Or... Are you going to give me a red card because those are implied by the thread being in this particular forum? Wow, thats a tough call. Ruffda was clearly in violation. but this is a discretionary call, and with almost 14,000 posts and an all-world designation, to my 33, I think I'd to swallow the whistle and signal "play on."

donneyp, tell us more about Goldburg. I have heard that American has quite a volleyball tradition in both men and women's program. It's Barry Goldberg. I guess he's been getting more press starting last season after he signed the tallest female twins in the world - the Recht sisters. I saw him in action when his team was getting easily handled by Pepperdine. He certainly knew his stuff, realized that Pepperdine was easily more talented, and didn't panic or chew out his players. I don't know if he'll ever attract the players he would need to make American a top 10 team. Still - if I had a daughter considering D-I volleyball, I think American could be a good choice simply based on what I've seen of Coach Goldberg. I guess the big criticism about American is that they're the full scholarship team in the Patriot League, but it may have been a condition on which they joined. Of course none of that is Coach Goldberg's fault.
