so, how does this usa team deal with success?
I'm thrilled with their performance, but it wasn't dominant throughout.
the 2008 team had great older leadership IHoff), and none of the starters were younger than 26.
this team, on the other hand, goes 27(anderson), 32(Rooney), 32-lee, 27 holt, 25-e.shojii, 22-sander, 21-micah...

This team also has very little depth, especially at OH and OPP. Libero, too.

Some USA vball alumni feel this team will be able to handle this success. The older players IMO are staying humble and supportive of the younger. And the younger crowd seems to be respective of the elders. Sander specifically has always been humble. His super star status, shouldn't affect him, but on the big stage (international stage) that may change. IMO the only thing I worry about, this issue, is how Anderson handles being supposedly snubbed from the award stage. He arguably was the staple for this team, the go-to for cleanup. Feel bad he didn't get recognized for his play and leadership. Just hope there isn't a Schizm because of that...

Listen, Matt answer to all this would be , "I'm just playing and trying to win." I would bet that Matt is more concerned on getting to Rochester and preparing for the Annual 10 Ugly Men Tourney this weekend than being "snubbed" for individual awards. 80 and Sunny!

I don't know where you're getting the idea that Anderson would be anything but ecstatic after winning WL with his team. That's a baseless assertion.

I'm not asserting, but I am "questioning" if a player could feel that way...

Not a regular poster over here, but reading the match thread, the Sander vs Priddy argument reminds me of the arguments on the women's side where many posters don't like Megan Hodge because she isn't a great passer.
Simply put, if you are able to side-out out-of-system on a regular basis, you don't need to pass in-system as often as a player who can't (especially if you have a setter who is able to work with poor passes).

Good point. That might explain why USA (finals vs Brazil) played better with Muagututia - better than Rooney in serve and attack, but sometimes with poor passing. Micah made the best of his skills.

This team also has very little depth, especially at OH and OPP. Libero, too. Is Will Price still in the mix for the OH2 spot? He's a highlight reel offensive player who has kind of fallen out of mind but is in the prime of his career at age 27 (guessing his age). I don't know if he's been in serve reception in Europe, and if not he's probably out of the question, but any player who jumps like he does should be considered. I haven't heard Price's name come up with the national team in a while. I just read he is leaving Turkey and heading to Asia next season. Will Price Signs in China

Will Price Signs in ChinaIf my memory serves me correctly, he and Anderson were in the USAV pipeline teams together when they were already in college. Correct me if I'm wrong, but was there a time when Price was the go-to offensive player. He was the unstoppable opposite hitter.

Christenson's a better setter than Ball ever was, Sander's a better hitter than Priddy ever was, Holt will be better than Millar ever was.. and all three are better servers with exception of Priddy perhaps. I think this team has better chances of winning Rio than the women's team. Don't agree that Christenson is better than Ball, not by a long shot. Sander may become a better hitter than Priddy ever was, and I think Holt is very likely to be better than Millar ever was. As for serving, well, until Max is able to consistently serve the ball in the court, (which he seems to be getting better at doing) I will not consider him a better server than Priddy. Christenson has incredibly soft hands and outstanding touch. His backsets were fantastic. He still has problems with location, options in transition, and delivery in contested rallies, but all of these things can and will be improved with experience. Rave all you want about Sander (and I love 'em!), but the rookie who made the most difference on this team has been Christenson. Now if he can just hold off James Shaw.... BTW, what about David Lee? Sure nice to see float serve aces again!

Saw this match. Loved the Al Scates sightings in the end zone. Also great to see Muagututia get in and win.

I watch a little of the youtube the past week but the HD version last night was awesome. Great angles and slow mo coverage of the court. It translated to viewer tv very well. Exciting stuff
