Ridiculous. where do you want me to begin? Ok how about..." A dig or 2 would be nice"; " I've seen enough of Nora and Wilhite tonight, but Hugh is too stubborn"; "poor setting choice" "quit setting Nora-she can';t jump tonight, just let her block" followed by"...and she could jump before?..."; "Nora, whith a kill? What?!" ; Schau couldn't jump over a phone book if she wanted to..." " What an embarrassment'' No oh2, no setter, no passing" I'm not saying you can't be critical, just be objective and not personal.

Nobody's coming at them personally! It's all from an athletic standpoint, and I have a right to say some of those things because it only has to do with their on court performance and nothing else. It's criticism, deal with it.

Very impressive games from Liz McMahon and Paige Tapp. Good efforts as well from Jocelynn Birks and Daly Santana.
McMahon and Birks really came through for Illinois when needed in sets 1 and 2.

Sulo, I said two of those. The "a dig or two would be nice" was directed at Wilhite. At the time she had made one dig maybe and had several others hit the floor just to her left. The "poor set choice" comment I gave my reasons why it was a poor choice. Why set the hitter who is struggling the most, at a 30-30 tie. Also she had the 6'6" blocker in front of her. Please tell me how I'm wrong for criticizing that choice.

I never said you didn't have a right to say it, I only pointed out I don't think its the proper way to go about it. Lets take Hugh for instance, here is a veteran coach who has won a gold medal and certainly been around the "volleyball" block a few times. In addition, he sees his players every day in practice and knows them inside and out. Do you really think you know more than he does as far as personnel decisions go? I highly doubt that he wants to lose, so I have to believe he's doing whst he thinks is best for the team. And, no offense, I certainly trust his judgment over yours. By the way, weren't you the one who had that cute little math equation in your posts that said that "Goehner> Carlini"? That is all the people need to know!!!!!!

Mpls Setter, with the first quote, IMHO it was dripping with unecessary sarcasm, with respect to the second quote, i stand corrected-it was appropriate, sorry about that.

Has Goehner played outside at all this year? If so, how did she do?
Why is Santana not doing her jump top spin serve....why the lolly pop serves...??

Goehner played OH in one game of the Toledo tournament. At least.
Santana is not 100%, but her serves are not "lolly-pops." She's still our most effective server. You know who else scores points? Schau. Another reason she's playing.
That said, this team needs to be better at serving. I'm sure they know that.

So nobody is allowed to be critical? Sulu, which critical comments do you find "ridiculous"?

I really struggle when I see posts doing little but slamming these young ladies. They are busting their butts out there for your enjoyment, trying just as hard as they can, and a fan hits them high and low. I watched the game in person, AM an Illini fan, among other programs/schools, and my FIRST comment, other than after Illini's experience against Minn, was so glad to see them win one, is that I thought the match (at least 1st 2 sets) reminded me of a heavy weight fight - monster slams, fantastic blocks, and back line defense that was just about as good and exciting as it gets. I thought it was a good one, and felt that the players on both sides of the net left it ALL on the court for 3. Illini's Lebero, Brandi Donnelly, FRESHMAN, was just about the best I've seen this year - can't be many better. I have participated in a lot of sports blogs, and it's generally accepted, that bashing individuals by name is usually off limits - heck, I have jumped on parts of matches, indicated more back line defense needed, or where are the blocking hands at the net, or the serving was generally atrocious, but have never spotted any individual player, and then reamed them publically, by name, saying what a terrible player they were. These kids AND their parents read this stuff, they play because they love the game, and try their damnest to please. Just keep that in mind when you feel the urge to publically humiliate one of these kids the next time.
