Wow...and I am accused of being too hard on my favorite team (the Illini)! I sure hope I don't come across as bad as mnsports255.
I thought the Gophers gave a good account of themselves. They are so young...but obviously the future is bright for the underclassman. They do need some time to mature and gel. Minny gave Illinois all they could handle. The Tapp twin who scored time and time again on the slide seemed unstoppable. She contacted the ball so high, and the trajectory of her spike was pretty much straight down. Hats off to her! And, of course, Santana seems to be the heart and soul of this team. She played well as always. I was wondering where her topspin jump serve was last evening...I did notice her legs were taped up, and apparently she is not 100%. That is a blessing for any team playing Minny. Watch out when she's 100%.
The Illini played well. In fact, Liz McMahon had one of her top hitting performances that I have seen from her in 3+ years of watching her play. She appeared to really want this one, and was pretty much unstoppable. And how about the play of soph. OH Michelle Strizak who came on for sr. Morganne Criswell...so solid and flashes of why she was Ohio's high school player of the year one year after PSU's Megan Courtney. Freshman libero, Brandi Donnelly, was everything everyone has been saying about her...denying some hard driven Gopher spikes from hitting the floor. Setter Viliunas seemed totally in control and did a good job of distributing the ball to her hitters...my only complaint re: her setting was that that she was obviously trying to give all of the hitters an equal opportunity to score when I was hoping she would have been more content to go to the hitter with the hot hand namely McMahon. Go to the well until the well dries up! Birks was her usual reliable self as were the other Illini team members.
The 2 1/2 year Minnesota monkey is now officially off Coach Hambly's back, and the Illini veterans who have not beaten the Gophers in that time can be satisfied with a hard-fought, well-deserved 3-0 win.

Last Illini win over Minnesota was at Minnesota 10/22/2010 (3-2). I have been told that the B1G announcers were saying that Illinois had not beaten Minnesota since 2009....wrong!

I believe that was Hannah on the slide; it looks like she really took her notes down practicing the several thousand times she did with Tori.

Illinois started the year thinking they are a #6 team not a #16; I think they played closer to that and might give PSU a real run. Wisconsin will have their hands full if the ill pin hitters show up again.
Minneaota needs to find that .394 hitting side they had six sets ago. I like how the 6-2 can bring a more even chance of finding the better hands on any given night; having a strong seventh hitter is a super plus when either an opp or left isn't finding it. It seems they have three or four additional options on the pin: carloui (sp) beal, Goehner, lohman. Morgan has to be a viable option at libero; she helped the team to the 8 two year's ago.

It's been a while since they won in Champaign. 2009. Maybe that's what they meant.

Donnelly and Birks were impressive McMahon had a nice game which I feel was far overdue. A player with her height advantage should be hitting over the block far more often then she does. She did appear to be invested in this particular match for whatever reason.
Both setters struggle with placement of sets to the OH.
Minnesota is young but well coached,by the end of the season I'd bet you'll be looking at a entirely different team. Santana is still hurt and she's their spark. They'll be fine.

You have been hard on specific players in the past but a much improved attitude I must say. I am so impressed with Donnelly what heart. I was also impressed with Strizak but she doesn't have a lot of power. She did get the job done . I wasn't sure why the switch because Criswell appeared to be doing well. Coach has a short leash on her for some reason. Stadick is also just a quality steady middle a much needed addition . I was not a fan of Davis at first but she's come a long way.

Listen, I'm not trying to make friends or impress anyone on this forum with an exceptional display of attitude. I couldn't care less what users on a message board think of me, so I post what I want within obvious boundaries. (don't take this as an attack notpriddy, it's not) I say what I feel, I don't sugar-coat things, and I'll criticize from a fan's perspective as much as I feel a player, coach, or team deserves, but this is ALL from a volleyball standpoint. That's where I draw the line. I know they are (mostly) all exceptional people off the court, and they've accomplished alot thus far in their careers to get to this point.

...and on the lighter side of things...I thought it was comical when the announcer (the gal...) said the word sh*t and then tried to correct herself and almost said it again. Too funny...RR

Goodness, I don't think mnsports is so bad. In fact, deducing from the posts that she is a high school student, I think the posts are generally enthusiastic, informational, in complete sentences, lacking "OMGs" and show a lot of maturity and most importantly, don't insult other posters (ahem). It's ok to be frustrated once in a while, and I think over the body of work mnsports has a lot of nice things to say about the Gophers. I think we all know the players are working hard, have a lot of stress and pressure as student-athletes, but are also occasionally getting insulted by their coaches, too, right (and sometimes in press conferences)? What's a terd? Is it anything related to a tern? (also impressed that mnsports knows the proper term is "couldn't care less," not "could care less.") And no, I do not know mnsports in any way, shape or form.
