Having played at USC years ago and am part of the USC Men's VB Alumni Advisory Board, hearing these posts is quite disturbing, especially when there is nothing solid to actually back them up. My daughter plays Sand at LMU and this is the first I have heard about the poaching. I do, though, tend to believe that there may be some fire behind all of the smoke. I can tell you that Pat Haden has all of his coaches on a tight leash when it come down to the NCAA and potential violations. The fact that USC does have scholarships (that can be split up many ways) makes USC an attractive program. Some girls may also get funding through grants and academic aid, which helps makes USC a more attractive place to get a diploma from than the majority of schools now offering Sand (sorry, no disrespect intended). In other words, I get the feeling that the majority of players that have transferred approached USC first, not the other way around. Although, football is #1 by far at USC, getting national championships in any of the other sports is a very big deal to the alumni.
As far as Mick wanting to separate the programs, Kirby, Eve, and Bria were most likely to get very little playing time indoors but were much better suited to the Sand program and Mick is under a lot of pressure to bring home another title.

With all of this talk about USC, I have been surprised that they haven't been able to win the championship. I know the sport is still in its early stages, and yes I am aware there were other great programs too.
Do all of these recruits help USC's chances in the coming years, or will most of the teams begin to even out?

They have one and will soon have a second player, from LBS, both of whom came to LBS to play both indoor and outdoor...yeah, it seems like an easy decision to get a full ride and only have to play about 6 weeks the entire school year, but then again when the kids are recruited and at another school and then they disappear off to Figueroa St. one does NOT have to have a rocket ship in their backyard to reach the conclusion that there MAY HAVE JUST BEEN A LITTLE DISHONEST POACHING/RECRUITING going on...as far as Misty May is concerned I suspect that she may have figured out that her little friend at USC does cheat and has no respect for what other coaches have done with their recruiting and players....not the kind of example that I would want to be setting for my kids...and the poster who said that BG is very honest and ethical, is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! So who's the second player that we are losing?

Was looking back at the finishes of Nationals....interesting how Hawaii was ranked above FSU most of the year and FSU handed it to them with a 4-1 beat down after Hawaii beat USC. Went on to almost win the championship in 4 and lost it by 2 pts considering they were up 2-1 n Pardon /Davis lost it in the third to even it at 2 a piece...where are they getting their athletes? How are they hanging with the high level recruits from So Cal?

Sorry, but can someone fill me in on the whole Misty May-Treanor situation? I seem to have missed it, is she not a volunteer assistant anymore at USC?
Also, in reply to some of the above posts, I think those big time recruits for USC are definitely going to make some noise in the future. They'll probably do well this season, but 2016 and beyond could be really great for them. Right now, their top flights consist of young but experienced players, (Sara Hughes/Kelly Claes will probably be SC's #1 pair as sophomores, Alexa Strange is a junior in the #2 pair), but their lower-tier pairs IMO have just always been weaker compared to past Pepp/LBSU/FSU lower pairs. Of course, any teams' 4/5 pairs will never be as good as their 1/2 pairs, but it just seems like there's a drop off in USC's lower flights compared to their upper ones. (ed: I agree though, they do have a lot of talent and should be competing for the NC every year, not bow out in the semifinals like they have been.)
But I guess by the looks of it, Collier is bringing in some talented recruits so once she can put those big time scholarship/recruited players in the top five pairs, then they could be in the hunt to win multiple NC's in the future.

Plus FSU went all in with their commitment to the sport (great facilities, coaches, etc.).

Yeah, I'd agree with that assessment in respect to USC historically not being as strong in the 3,4,5 pairs. Pepp has generally had more talent top to bottom than the Trojans. That should be changing to a degree, as USC is bringing in Bukevic and (I assume) Jo Kremer - who is really, really good - along with a couple of good freshmen. Strange is playing with Meg Norton this season, I think. And next year they have Joy Dennis coming in. However, Pepperdine is stacked this season as well. Nina is bringing back a bunch of really good players - Dykstra, Strehlow, Woolever, Larsen, Asprey, Cash, Knudsen, T. Racich, plus a really good freshman (Corinne Quiggle). IMO, Pepp might still be the team to beat in 2015.

Next year not having Joy Dennis coming in, next year Dennis will be a senior in HS. Bustamante, Dunn and Kirnochian coming in.

Joy Dennis is giving up indoor to play sand only?? I thought she was a high major recruit in indoor, definitely bad news for Long Beach.

Regardless, you're correct - Dennis is a '16, not a '15, which is my bad. I need to stop thinking in terms of Spring. At the same time, of the 15's referenced, only one is likely to have any impact at USC.

so in summary - the Long Beach indoor program is now the official screening service for the USC Sand program - when will both schools hold a news conference to announce this 'arrangement'??
maybe they should combine, kinda like the Angels team name - the Long Beach State Sand Volleyball program of the University of Southern California
