I'm not an old "fuddy-duddie" as you would say IB. I'm 26. And as far as passion, I grew up in Boston a die-hard Red Sox fan - I know passion. But, I was always taught to cheer for my team, not against the other.
I don't think buying a ticket to a game entitles a spectator to anything other then watching a game. It is not a free pass to say whatever you want to the competitors. Whether you think it is all in good fun, its not. These players train hard and compete hard every day and they deserve better then some idiot giving it to them everytime they touch the ball, or serve, or mess up, or walk by. Go to these games and be a super fan, cheer loudly for your team, support them through the wins and loses, but leave the other team out of it.
My wife and I have a 4 month old son. I want to be able to take him to games when he gets older and not have to worry about him hearing profanity or crude talk. Heckling tends to take the enjoyment out of the game for those of us who still believe that going to the game is still just about sitting back and enjoying the game.

Well, as soon as you have kids, you're automatically an old-fuddy-duddy, with a few exceptions. Seriously though, I think the profanity doesn't need to exist. I enjoy the kind of heckling that gets laughs out of the crowd, the opponents, and the team members. Even if it does break their concentration.

GauchoYoungin, I'm not taking his side. As I said, he didn't tell me what it was you said that was the last straw. I don't have enough info here to take either side, and it really wouldn't make a difference one way or another if I did pick a side. All I meant to say was that it seems this matter is closed as far as he is concerned.

If it were I (which it probably wouldn't be because I can be very nice) I would not give up at a piece of paper banning me from the arena. I would definitely do everything I could to sneak in.

If I got banned from a volleyball arena, it would be for stalking the coach. "Leave me alone, will you?" Although I probably would not want to sneak in and risk violating the restraining order...

I bet Moscovic will be the libero in no time. As soon as she gets more reps passing in pracitce, she'll take over. Engel is just flat out terrible. This is an recent example (Sorry to pick on you Gator). How is posting on this forum different than actually saying it in person at a match? Most of you are guilty of rating people on this forum, but can hide behind the anonymity of your screen name and hidden IP. However, some brave soul actually says what he thinks (which is similar to what people here post all the time) and he is booted for it? If the Moderator at this forum was like the Athletic Director at Santa Barbara (or like the old fuddy-duddies, who are just as guilty, for the most part at being critical) then we would have nothing to say but: 'yay, your team played good' "no, your team played good" 'yay world, isn't life grand?' I think that many of us are not being entirely truthfull with ourselves in our criticism.

My criticisms here are no different than what I say at a match - anyone who has attended a match with me can attest to that. Biggest difference between this board and hecklers in the stands? I haven't seen anyone here, to my knowledge, criticize a player on physical attributes or sexual orientation. There's a big difference between me saying: "Omg, Player X is quite the dumbass. He/She passes like a epileptic octopus." and... "My god, look at the hairlip on #16. She looks like Beavis with a wig and spandex."

Constructive critisism - and that is different then heckling. You go to a game to watch a game. Now, if you are sitting in the stands and someone shanks a pass and you say something to yourself or the person sitting next to you, that is one thing. Taking it upon yourself to yell at the player is not acceptable in my mind. Like I said before, I think these players deserve better then that.

What you're saying is basically talking about people "behind their backs." What the heckler is doing is just straight out being honest (or overly honest, as the cases may be). For the record, you guys are lumping ALL heckling together. I think that there is heckling that can be done in a constructive and nice manner, just as there is that bad heckling with cussing, and making fun of players' attributes. I have seen some pretty disparaging posts made on this very forum talking about girls' appearance's etc. that are NOT constructive criticism. I know that many of you will be surprised as to how many players that are discussed on this forum actually read what is written about them. I know of 56 players that have been talked about on this forum that have read what was said about them.

I woulda thought a heckuva lot more given all the overzealous parents of players we have popping in and outa here all the time. But, heck, since they are reading this, lemme put this out there: "Hey, all you women's MBs out there. For pete's sake, ease up on the chick plays and work on some real quicks for a change. It's called armspeed. Like a friend of mine in the college coaching community is fond of saying, "Women don't run quicks, they run mediums."

C'mon old fuddy duddies, is alzheimers set in too far or do you really forget the passion and lack of knowledge you displayed as youth? Some might call it a sign of maturing. Many people do some silly or dumb things when they're young. Some of of those people (eventually) come to realize that they were indeed doing dumb or silly things.

So now you're not only pandering to his behavior but your also advocating that he go from breaking university rules to actually beaking the law by moving on to trespassing?
