we know, Zhu and Kim makes over 1 million. I heard that Larson and Kosheleva were making around that much as well. Some players in China and Japan can make a lot. I heard that Mihajlovic and Fe Garay made 500K in China. Hooker will make USS230K and Faucett USS90k in Brazil. I don`t know the salary of a average player in Europe, but I would guess maybe they make around USS100K or a little less? But I think young players, especially those coming off NCAA makes very very little money even when playing in Italy. An average player? More like $40K. Maybe.

My source is good, but he wasn't certain.

There are quite a few. A truly livable wage is different when your wage comes AFTER rent/transport/food are already covered (and you have no student loans). Karsta was an elite, highly paid player. Players of her caliber in the league she played in are getting 300-500K for an 8 month season. Oh no... there`s no way they would be making 300-500K. Only a few players makes this much, I read that Rasic makes 350k in Vakifibank, and that is because she`s probably the best MB right now. There`s no way that Lowe would make this much, if she was making this much money I doubt she would quite. She would leave the NT but she would still be playing. China is a high-paying league so the scale is different. Also, middle blockers don't earn as much as opposites. Karsta was definitely making in that range (or not that far off of it). You may not think much of her but she was WGP MVP in her debut and one of the top young terminators in the world last time she was on the market.

I read that she made around USS250K in CHINA, but she had a poor season and they would not renew with her. She would have to go back to Europe, and not even in Italy or Turkey she would make that much, not even close. I'm not talking only about her, I'm talking in general, volleyball players does not make much money unfortunately. Foluke will play in Japan and she probably will make a good amount of money, much more than she would make if she played in Italy or Turkey, Mihajlovic will end up playing in Japan as well, Volero owns her contract and they will send her to the club that pays the most, and Japan can pay more than Italy/Turkey ( of course Zhu and Kim makes over 1M, but that is not the case for everyone else).

With the little pay for an outcoming NCAA player in Italy, how much do people think the highly rated players such as Carlini and Wilhite will make?

In terms of a lot of people retiring early, it's not that surprising. If you are on the outside of the National Team and looking in, it might be one of the most frustrating things out there. Too be so close but not make it, can be rough on the psyche.
That said too, a lot of players have literally been playing nearly year round since they were probably 8yrs old. Thus almost the entirety of their lives dedicated to volleyball. And if they did their due diligence in college and got a degree, why not see what else is out there and keep volleyball as the side fun thing to do instead of the primary focus of their life.
I'd also add that for some, they might also think they have a better shot at the beach. And the benefit is that they don't have to travel half way around the world to do it.

It seems that if she has an interest in something as gloriously wonderful as architecture, she must have a good head on her shoulders and have concluded that she's going to try to make a living by using brains instead of brawn.
Speaking of architecture, I once built a miniature stadium with paper and glue when I was 8 years old. It was never advertised around the 'hood back then because that would've gotten me beat up. But I think I can finally tell someone now. What a load off my shoulders!

I think it would be cool to design ski jumps. Here's one designed by famed architect Zaha Hadid ... Karsta could make history in this field.

There is of course also the issue of no indoor domestic pro league at home here in the US. Not everyone is keen to travel half way around the world, especially those who might be a decent player, but not decent enough to make it on the NT. The lack of a domestic pro league does narrow down the options a fresh volleyball graduate has (and why their bachelor degree would come in handy).

The prospects of a freshly minted architect might not be so rosy, unless you are really really good and have the right connections. We'll see if Lowe has those attributes...

It's entirely possible. Kreklow's engagement played a big role in her (and Josh Taylor's) decision to hang up the Mizunos in my opinion. Vansant's boyfriend is in Seattle. Not everyone wants to live alone overseas, learn a foreign language, and eat strange food. Some see it as an adventure, others as a trial.
