World Cup Teams participants have been announced.
They went with the top two teams per continent according to world ranking + hosts + world champions.
Hosts: Japan World champions: Serbia AVC: China, Korea CAVB: Cameroon, Kenya CEV: Russia, Netherlands CSV: Brazil, Argentina NORCECA: USA, Dominican Republic.
Italy didn’t make the cut. Would have liked to see them instead of Russia. It’s only a matter of time before they surpass Russia in the world rankings.
Roster choices pending the table will look something like this:
Top half: Serbia, China, USA, Netherlands, Russia, Brazil
Bottom half: Japan, Dom Rep, Korea, Argentina, Cameroon, Kenya.
Same old stuff.
Hoping Karch will take a good mix of younger players to this as it has little importance.

This tournament still has major significance as it is still one of four tournaments used in the world ranking (and one is no longer in existence). With so few events in the ranking system, any slip can be a big factor. Just ask Italy.

Their world ranking points has them comfortably above Brazil and Russia and trailing China and Serbia by a decent margin. Even if we took a squad of young players I still see us being competitive and placing in the top 5 teams. Besides I read an article saying the FIVB is re-working the world ranking system so who knows what it will all look like come 2020? Even if the US drops a spot in the world ranking they will still be seeded into pool A at Tokyo.

I’m excited for the Dutch. If they place decently high here they should pass Japan, Russia and Brazil in the world rankings.

The cities have been decided for 5 of the 6 ICQT Pools - and Wiki has it showing USA will host Pool C but the city is undecided.
Anyone have any ideas? Lincoln again?
