1:03.17 Minnesota vs Oregon , no double contact called on samedy. Just rewatched the match and came to this thread right after that play. And Oregon was up 35-34 and should’ve been given the set. Ohhh careful... you’re going to be accused of allowing the OFFICIALS to decide the outcome of the match and not the PLAYERS.

I thought you didn’t believe in doubles. I’m kidding, but I remember watching that match and I think the R1 was very (consistently) loose with ball handling (not sure there was one double was called). If anything, Oregon got away with more than Minnesota.

I didn’t particularly notice many in the match, that was certainly the worst. That double would’ve been called in a jv high school game. There some really bad plays on both sides that the officials didn’t call.

So, you got two red cards for suggesting a protest that was successful? I think it was a combo of suggesting the opposing coach protest, and maybe the fact I tapped my head repeatedly and said, “This is not a referee signal!!!!!!” . I went too far. It was the culmination of SO MANY calls against the other team who only had 6 players, was trying their hardest, and the ref just kept blowing the whistle. I had even asked the R2 to tell the R1 we would rather have rallies than him stopping every rally with a BHE, overlaps, etc. He wasn’t happy with my request. Asking a ref to call a game differently than they have been trained is a pretty tough ask. Almost all of what they do, if not actually split second decision making, is close to it, and asking them to go against ingrained - and correct - habits is not easy

Our team serves an almost ace. The passer sprawls and gets just enough of the ball to shank it forward into the middle of the net right where our middle blocker is standing. The ball drives the net into our blocker and then falls to the floor. The up official calls our middle blocker for a net violation. ... and yes, this was at the D1 level.
We tried to explain the rule and the error to the official but ego trumps logic sometimes. It soon became evident that my favorite saying was in play: If you knowingly argue with an idiot, it just means there are now two idiots arguing.
