I’ll be curious to see what attendance is like at this event and how much live stream coverage there is. In theory an Olympic qualification event should be a big deal, but with so many top teams skipping it there may be very little promotion for an event that nobody wants to watch anyway.

Right, this tournament is strange. It's almost like somebody thought of the idea, but didn 't really think it through. Ostensibly a reason could be that they hoped all the good teams would skip, and a team ranked, say #25, would win, thus diversifying the mix of teams who qualify. . That could still happen if Austria or Finland make it to the finals, but with all those teams ranked in the teens also entered, not very likely. As it stands, the highest ranked team that are entered are Canada2 (Wilkerson) and SUI (Heidrich). They would certainly be the favorites to Final. I’ll say China and Spain have a chance too after their latest results in Rome. Feels like China is paying out of its pocket to try to get Chinese teams to obtain an Olympic spot. No points, no money. The two teams who earn the spot will say its worth it. But what about the other 14 teams? But again, for a country like Germany where they asked a team to withdraw so that teams wouldn’t have to battle it out in CQ, I wouldn’t be surprised if let’s say that German team won, earning a spot for Germany but Germany decided to award the spot to another team instead.

I didn't know that a Federation could switch out one team for another... but then this is such a strange tournament anything is possible.
Why Russia took out a team in the mid teens (bubble) for Points Qualifying, and replaced them with a team with almost zero chance of qualifying is puzzling.
Ah, I see, Slovakia is withdrawing their women's team (why though? they're a bubble team) and the FIVB is replacing them with Poland.
So here we have at the last minute two Bubble teams that have withdrawn. Those Bubble teams had a chance to beat Hermannova or the two or three teams ranked ahead of them at this tournament, to finalize their qualification for Tokyo, and they withdraw. Strange.

Looking more and more like federations realizing the stupidity of this event and decided to bail the better teams out.

Doing an event like this is a really crummy thing from an already awful organization. China has basically paid the FIVB to more or less force teams to play for free.

They didn't have much of a choice, Kholomina blew her knee at the European Championships....curious why they didn't send the veterans Birlova and Ukolova, though...not a great team, but they'd probably have a better chance than Voronina and Bocharova

So little known fact — all matches are streamed LIVE on the FIVB Youtube page.
