I will be very interested in the team that makes it out of Hawaii's regional. It will be interesting to see what the travel to Hawaii then to Omaha will do to the athletes.

I don't think Stanford will be sent to Hawaii this year. If Stanford wins the PAC10 conference this season, chances are high for the Hawaii regional.

hmm, how would Washington have a weather factor? December in Seattle is high 50s with overcast and/or drizzle, and nightly lows in the mid-40s. Paradise compared to Happy Valley in the winter.

I Predict............................................................................ Penn St. to Washington Stanford to Hawai'i Nebraska to Texas UCLA to Florida Wouldn't travel policy come into play? It would make more sense to keep PSU in the East and UCLA in the West. NU going to TX would make sense as would Stanford at Hawai'i. One thing is for certain. When the seedings and brackets come out we will all be saying "what were they thinking" and "______ has the easiest road to Omaha".

NCAA likes to send teams far and about.

lol, ok, you must be the Seattle weather expert... I don't disagree that Washington will be the "coldest" regional. But compared to where some of these teams might come from (Nebraska, PSU) it will be MUCH warmer.
I don't buy the weather argument at all -- indoor volleyball is played, shockingly, indoors. And you can get sick just as easily in Florida as you can in Alaska.

I don't think travel issues are much of a consideration beyond the 1st and 2nd rounds. The Regional matchups are based on seeds more than geography. However, there have been instances where the seeds were apparently rigged to impact the travel on the first weekend.

It's damp and chilly and can be very dreary. All the sunshine state volleyball players going through this regional will become depressed and lose. Not true. Harsh weather takes different reactions from your body. Yeah, you can get sick anywhere, but in a nice climate like Hawaii, it is much easier to stay healthy than it was in the Northwest!! I have only been sick since moving here 3-years ago 3-times. Each time either during or directly following a mainland trip with extreme weather.

Travel does take its toll. That's the smartest post you've made in 4 years (R)uff! And that's why they don't get sent to Hawaii. But wait. Why not? Hawai'i got sent to State College last year. Hmmm. something fishy is going on.

As Pedro said, many of the teams that may come are from areas with much harsher winters than Seattle. Perhaps not grayer winters, but harsher. I honestly don't think Washington's home court advantage has anything to do with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD, aka mid-winter blahs), but if some midwest team wants to think that, I wouldn't stop 'em. ;D

What has Florida done this year to impress anyone? I keep hearing SEC fans beating their chests in regard to the improvement of the conference, but the top tier is weaker than the past. LSU is better, Tennessee is weaker. Who else is an NCAA team. Florida struggled at home against Utah. The Gators beat a floundering Hawaii team on the road, but were ripped by UCLA. Keep in mind they have not been on the road to Tennessee, or LSU (the only tourney-bound teams in the SEC). Lost to a South Carolina team that is 5-7 in the league and a weak 12-11 overall. The only other quality SEC teams are Arkansas and Alabama and Florida has not been to their respective homes either. The only league road wins for Florida are Mississippi, Miss State, Kentucky (in 5), and Georgia. So far, Florida has done nothing to warrant a top 10 ranking. Check their results below with RKPI rankings included:

Florida has the one big advantage - hosting a regional. The NCAA will want them there. There biggest win occured a few months ago when the submitted a winning bid to host a regional.
They won't be a top 4 seed, obviously, but I doubt their road to the regionals will be very difficult.

It'd be one thing if they hadn't been sent to Texas for rounds 1 and 2, but the combo was just stupid. Of course, the fact they were already in Texas was probably the Committee's justification...
