What a screwy poll... Stanford picked up five first-place votes but dropped one place to #3!

Looks like Oregon took a serious hit. If my math is correct, they were likely on less than a third of the ballots.

I had predicted:
1--Washington 2--Nebraska 3--Stanford 4--Penn State 5--USC 6--UCLA
Pac10 bias could kick in and PSU and USC could switch.
I don't think Nebraska will fall lower than #2.
I keep forgetting it's a Pac10 (State of) California bias. Washington and Oregon don't count.

Voters don't like Florida.

I don't understand how Nebraska is awarded a 1st place vote after loosing.

losing.
My guess is that the voters don't do as much research as we do.

My guess is they like the other teams even less at #1.
I still think they should have left #1 blank for this week...

I think the next couple weeks will help solidify the rankings, and could prove to be some interesting matches/results. USC vs UCLA, Washington at Stanford, Texas at Nebraska. I think possibly the Texas vs Nebraska match and the Stanford Washington match will prove to be the ones most impacting the poll. I think USC/UCLA will just solidify their current positions or flip them around, depending on the outcome. I think Penn St obviously has the easiest road ahead, and I still think they will get a #1 seed come tourney time.

Wow - Nebraska loses to an unranked team and they only drop 38 points. Penn State lost to Wisconsin, who at that time was ranked 14, and they lost 115 points.

That is an intriguing one (Penn State). It suggests that the accepted wisdom that AVCA voters only look at wins and losses is wrong and that they also looked at the fact that Penn State just barely beat Minnesota in that poll that week. (You're talking about the previous poll, right, as opposed to this one, where they lost to Ohio State?)

WTF is Pepperdine doing in the poll? Purdue shouldn't be ranked either. Not sure who should fill the final few spots, but those 2 teams don't belong.

I feel that NE retaining their #1 rank is refreshing. Too many times a team, in any sport, loses and the voters feel they cannot keep that team in the #1 spot. Maybe the voters recognize a "hiccup" vs. a trend.
If, I believe, what was mentioned in a previous post that the voters should consider the entire body of work vs. one weekend I'm sure that voters felt that NE shouldn't be punished. However, NE did go from receiving all 60 first place votes to 40. Some voters obviously aren't convinced NE is the top team.
