That really stunk. Such a good match and the live stream goes down. Disappointed.

I wouldn't say 5th but maybe tied for 3rd with summer. Even that's hard to say based on the fivb results there pretty close.

Britt has always been a great player. She's never really had a proper real run with an elite partner that she deserves. You could see how talented she was when she played with Misty last year. Emily is probably the most talented player she's played with and they could do pretty decent together. Curious to see how they will fair internationally. First AVP Title at age 35. At the MBO nonetheless. So stoked for her. She is as fit as they come, so I hope Emily doesn't throw her away because of her age.
As far as the #2-#5 USA Female teams. I think on any day they could be in almost any order. It's sorta like Women's Tennis ATM. Overall, I lean towards Summer/Lane as the clear #2 but it is a matter of time before Claes/Hughes gain enough experience to usurp them.

She's a little too much of a tweener but if I had to guess I think she probably wins again. I like her suits as well. Summer/Lane have had a solid domestic season but if I had to put money on a match between them and Claes/Hughes now, I would bet Kelly and Sara every time. They played twice and Summer/Lane won a squeaker then get spanked. Its really hard to judge Lauren/Brooke this year because that preposterous seed they have had has given them so many more opportunities. In every event they play they usually get to play two weak teams needing to beat one to get off net. A team like Kendra/Kim, when they play FIVB only get a pool with one weak team in it (because of their ranking they are the other) I wonder if you switched those teams seeds, would Kendra/Kim have had a much worse year than Lauren Brooke?

Claes/Hughes meet the eye test but we just don't know anything about them internationally and very little domestically. Plus Summer/Lane lead the H2H for now. There's very little data on them. That's the exact reason I'd rank Lauren/Brooke over Britt/Emily. We just don't know enough about Britt/Emily yet. If I was ranking who is the most likely to win the title, Lauren and Brooke would be last. If I was ranking who I think is most likely to take a set off of Walsh/Ross, Britt and Em would be last. Also, if I was betting on who would make it to Rio if they were doing a one-off tournament trial, it'd be scrambled in a different order. It's hard to say, but I think the USA has individual talent on the female side. Not totally convinced we have the perfect blend of partnerships but there are 5 or 6 solid teams.

Brooke just beat Kerri I know I know it was pool play but you think they wanted to lose to there fellow USA team? No chance they (eased) up on Brooke. Kerri hates losing to anyone any time!!....

Hochevar has had plenty of opportunities and never capitalized until today. She's played with Fendrick, Carico, Fopma, Summer Ross, Logan Tom, DeNicochea, Rutledge, Kropp, Akers, and Branagh. She played an FIVB Open with Kerri and could only manage an 8th. She deserves all the credit in the world for winning the MBO, but she's never been an elite player.

In 2 AVP tournaments over the last two years (the only ones they've played), Fendi/Sweat have lost to DiCello/VZ, Lane/Summer, Kessy/Day and Bensend/Urango. Their only good win was over Hochevar/Day this tournament.
In Fendi/Sweat's 3 5th places in the FIVB this year, their wins in knockout rounds have been over teams seeded 25, 20, 18, 31 and 7 (the Vanautu team not going to Rio). I don't think that can really be defined as international success. If all teams were on equal footing seed-wise going into an FIVB or AVP tourney, I would take Claes/Hughes, Lane/Summer and maybe Day/Hochevar and Dicello/VZ over them.
They're 3-8 against the teams in their Rio pool. I could see them possibly beating Ukolova/Birlova but it will probably go three. Hopefully they get a favorable draw for a lucky loser match if they do get third, but I honestly wouldn't bet on them making knockout rounds. But no other women's team would be favored to either, Claes/Hughes should've been born a year earlier.

Not sure how you are defining "solid" Right now I dont think there is any team other than Walross that is 100% a top 20 team based on this year's play.

Some random observations from MBO.
I agree with the poster who mentioned how good Phil looked. He single-handedly crushed Hyden/Bourne in the winners semis with his jump serving and blocking - as only he can. He remains the best player in the world.
The AVP announcer is just painful. Like a bad morning radio DJ desperately trying to create excitement. His horribleness was made even more obvious when Geeter took over the mic for the Todd retirement ceremony.
Can't wait for the rule change in Chicago - saw several matches end on missed serves or similarly anticlimactic plays.
Best young player I watched (besides Crabbs) was Frishman. May be too small to ever be an elite player - but he's really fun to watch. Also saw him raging in MB with his partner a couple hours after his last match - a reminder of how glorious it is to be in your early 20s and playing in the MBO.
Heard an interesting tidbit that Chaim Schalk may be playing in Chicago (he apparently has duel citizenship). He'd need to pick up a partner.
Found it interesting that Carico/Ross might have been the only high-ranked team I saw the entire weekend without a coach in their box. On the one hand, I admire the fact that even though they're young, they want to figure out things on their own. On the other hand, could a coach have made the one point difference that results in their name on the pier?
All-in-all, I imagine the AVP was really pleased with the event. Crowd was big and both finals were exciting.

Also he often seemed to be trying to make himself the center of attention

I agree with this. I was really annoyed a couple of tournaments ago when he stupidly yelled something out in mid toss of a player's serve and likely caused the guy to miss at a really crucial time of the game. The forced humor is awful.

I wasn't going to bring up the announcer, but since it's out there. I thought it was pitiful as well. Poor puns, and just plain crappy. There has to be someone better.

Lol. My son and I were watching and he commented on how pitiful the new announcer is. Hopefully he gets replaced next year- he is literally becoming a distraction

Any particular reason why Geeter doesn't do it anymore?
