Some random observations from MBO. Heard an interesting tidbit that Chaim Schalk may be playing in Chicago (he apparently has duel citizenship). He'd need to pick up a partner. Chaim is married to Lane, just like Andy Ces is married to Kessy allowing him to play.

Where's Jim Arico? HA! Hey Crawfish, thanks for the MBO update - very much like reading that stuff when we can't be there in person!

Hudson grew up in Richmond,Va. He's been the Marymount Men's volleyball (Arlington,Va, northern Va.) team coach for 3 years or so..since the program started. He went to George Mason and played volleyball, the same with Mark Burik. Hudson comes out to the coast, Va. Beach for the bigger money tourneys but rarely with Burik since he's in Cali. Hudson almost always wins in the local tourneys, regionally.

Feel bad ripping the young guy on the mic, but he really was annoying. If they stick with him, the AVP would be better served if he just played it more straight and dialed back on the forced enthusiasm, bad jokes, and fake chumminess with the players.

The guy seems composed and polished but is probably trying too hard to be the next Geeter. Just call the action and promote the sponsors.

Any particular reason why Geeter doesn't do it anymore? Geeter works for Time Warner, can't do stuff televised by other networks.

They probably told him to copy Geeter - but it worked for Geeter because (a) he really was close with the players and (b) is legitimately funny. Hard to find another Geeter, so they're better off not trying. I do think the guy they have is professional - so if they dialed him back, he'd be okay.

Some really good shots. The one of the ball being driven off McCulloch's block really shows the force that they are hit with. Too bad there wasnt a shot of Taylor's mash off the head of Robbie Page that went like 70 feet in the air!

And, while we are at it, they really should change the name of the organization to AAVP. The Association of AMERICAN Volleyball Professionals.

Not sure what you are trying to stir, but there were more than a few non-Americans, who were legal to play.

Sure. Let's just change the "World Series" while we are at it to continue the insatiable and futile quest to attempt to make an imperfect world perfect.

Meh. Complain to the FIVB then, since they're the one setting restrictions on current world tour players entering AVP events.

Meh. Complain to the FIVB then, since they're the one setting restrictions on current world tour players entering AVP events. Seriously? Do they do this with all country domestic tours?

Meh. Complain to the FIVB then, since they're the one setting restrictions on current world tour players entering AVP events. That is a reasonable explanation. Still, why do they insist on calling the event the Manhattan Beach OPEN, when the event is not really "open"?
