Meh. Complain to the FIVB then, since they're the one setting restrictions on current world tour players entering AVP events. That is a reasonable explanation. Still, why do they insist on calling the event the Manhattan Beach OPEN, when the event is not really "open"? I think AVP refers to all its tournaments, not just Manhattan, as Opens. This is a vestige from the earliest (pre-professional) days of CA beach volleyball, when Open referred to a tournament that was open to players of any ranking (as opposed to a B, A, or AA tournament). They could probably get rid of it, but we are all so used to it at this point. In terms of the FIVB restrictions, my understanding is players can only enter AVP events if they are (a) U.S. citizens or green card holders; and (b) not seeking Olympic qualification for another country. So a Carumbula or Schalk could not enter the MBO because they are qualifying for other countries. But when the Olympics are over and the qualifying period ends, they would be eligible to play AVPs.

But begs the idea of a FIVB-KOB.

OMG, Unrated - that is the best idea in the entire history of the planet!!! Seriously, a season-ending KOB with the FIVB players - how awesome would that be for the fans to watch? Kerri playing with Walkenhorst! Menegatti and April! Phil and Nummerdor! Carambula and Bruno!!! Larissa and Bansley-Pavan! Someone stop me! Seriously, I would travel to see something like that, wouldn't you guys?

Christian and Phil against Bruno and Nick, maybe Allison and Doherty against Reindeer and the little Italian 1 (or Adrian)

An FIVB KOB would be exciting to watch, some of the pairs would be amazing.

I have always thought an FIVB King/Queen would be the best event ever, even better than Olympics. I have brought this up numerous times with ALL my vball friends, all 1-2 that actually follow the FIVB, sad but true. Probably would be better just doing 16, but 32 was more fun. 32 would be a lot of matches for the finalists, 12 over 6 days. Real world probably just need to do 16 players. I took the 32 players based off olympic rankings, and changed a few pools so you don't have a pool with fellow countrymen. Sign me up to watch all 6 days though!
Rank Name Country Pool 1 Alison BRA 1 8 Smedins LAT 1 9 Semenov RUS 1 16 Bourne USA 1

If you were a small you were hoping for 3 bigs, or vise versa, you're the 1 blocker in the group with 3 defenders, money! Or just be an all around player i.e. Hyden at 6'5" and it doesn't matter who is in your pool. Play with everyone 1 match for 3 total matches.

My money would be on Janis Smedins. Dudes an incredible all around player. Evandro or Pedro could do well also.

Id love to see 32, but Id hate to miss out on pairings I really want (like when Kent Steffes used to show up and barely try.)
I want to see Phil/Evandro. For me Evandro is the dark horse here. He has played defense and he is always a threat with that serve.
