Great semifinals (would have been better with the English announcer working solo).
Happy for Bruno and Alison - unbelievable pressure on those guys.

Watching Germany vs Brazil and my wife said that Ludwig has an odd serve. I told her that the announcers explained the other night that it is a very common style of serve now and was pioneered by a male german volleyball player 10 years ago(?). But I cannot find any info o0n why it is so popular or what it is called or how prevalent it is. Did searches for standing jump in sand volleyball but that was not right.
Can anybody explain the benefits to me beyond the obvious of not getting exhausted from actual jump serves in sand?

Larissa seemed resigned. Where's the white hot rage? Well, there comes a point where you're getting your ass kicked so thoroughly that you can't even get mad about it. Come to think of it, though, Larissa's temperament seems to have mellowed (by her standards, that is) some since she took a year off and got married. Hubby obviously keeping her in line….anywho, was not expecting that performance from the Germans….that was a complete dismantling. Tough match tonight for Kerri and April and is a shame that's not th gold medal match

Will be a great gold medal match if the U.S. makes the final.

Man I thought Ned had Bruno/Alison beat, I was jumping up and down 6,000 miles away cheering them on. Always Thursday for the Italians or Russians to get it done at least. Netherlands were very surprising though, did not think they had a shot.
Ludwig is going to give USA some fits if she can bring it like she did today. She was impressive vs. the Swiss but nowhere near what she was today. Glad both of them are healthy and strong again

So happy The Evil One went down. Couldn't have happened to a better person. As usual, she was barking at her partner and complaining about every call. She is always so classless when the going gets tough. Betting Talita won't be her partner anymore. The Evil One has such a horrible attitude. Don't know how anyone can like her.
I thought Germany was pretty good, but Kira still kept giving them way too many free points with net touches and missed serves. If Brazil was up for the task, they could have put some pressure on because they got help from Kira. If it was remotely close, you know the crowd would have gotten involved because they are classless spectators.
Wish Bruno/Allison went down too. I can't stand the Brazil crowd. I am hoping they get awarded with as few medals as possible with how horrible their behavior has been this tournament. They boo'd the eventual Silver Medalist in Pole Vault last night. Despicable spectators.

You know who else barked at partners? Karch, Stoklos, Todd, about a million other male players. But when a woman does it, its somehow an issue. Who is a bigger jerk, Larissa or anyone in the top 6 male American players ever not named Phil? (Hint: Its not Larissa) Larissa is easy to like if you appreciate people overcoming odds, intensity, and don't try to force female athletes into antiquated gender roles. She has more FIVB wins than anyone ever at 5'9. Take a look at Larissa and Kerri Walsh and the natural gifts both have. Should Larissa even be competing with Kerri? With Laura Ludwig? With Sara Pavan or April Ross? A whole lot of the dislike of Larissa seems very similar to the dislike of EY and other "intense" female players.

Just watched the replay of the whole match and I saw a few things.....it didn't appear like Larissa was getting a hand on anything remotely close to what she is used too...She almost looked slow in the backcourt....Talita hasn't played well the whole tourney I don't think.....Laura Ludwig dug Everything....Have never watched Germany play that well....Also, the crowd in the stadium was dead....lots & lots of empty seats.....you take the crowd out of it and it's a level playing field....I am not a huge Larissa fan, but found myself feeling a little sorry for her.....she has had an exceptional career and should be proud.....I believe they will win bronze no matter which team they face tomorrow.....

I love the alpha females. I don't need my female athletes to be Anna Kournikovas. My favorite athlete is Serena Williams. My dislike for Larissa is very similar for my dislike for Hope Solo. I respect the hell out of them as athletes, fricking hate them as people. For the record, I don't like the men that bark at their partners either. I get most of the world has the double standard, but I am not one of them. Many people find Usain Bolt to be very charming and charismatic. I find him to be a self centered cocky douchebag. I can't even imagine the criticism that would ensue if a female athlete had those antics.
I'm devastated that sewer rat of a crowd claimed Kerri/April. They were completely rattled and it's only going to get worse with them having to jump back into the Lion's Den. Ugh I really wanted them to take it to Brazil. They can win Bronze or not. It doesn't really matter at this point. They played so well this tournament, and they came back down to earth this match.
I just never imagined them losing to fricking Agatha and Barbara. They remind me of those tennis players who I watch and see them do nothing fantastic or brilliant and then I look up at the scoreboard and they are leading. That is Aga/Barb in a nutshell.

It's going to be one heck of a finals bracket on the women's side. That bronze medal match (USA/Brazil) is going to be tough, and the gold should be great to watch.
The guard has definitely changed for the women's game in these Olympics.

The Brazilians had a game plan tonight....It was to serve Kerri.....And Kerri wasn't ready or so it seemed.....April played great I thought.....I have never seen Kerri as rattled as she was tonight....What kinda makes me sick is the fact that as well as Brazil played, it was a close match scoreboard wise.....I really don't think the crowd was a factor either....Just wasn't there night....Hoping for the Bronze medal but not expecting it.....

Fair enough. I may have been quick to lump you in there. I was so confident they would win I went to sleep and watched it this morning. The worst part was that once Walross lost the first I could tell by the time left on the replay that they were going to lose in two. I agree Bronze is not important to either of these teams. I wouldn't be surprised to see all four show up and just mail it in. Larissa/Juliana v Kerri/Misty was the SS/Hovland Dodd of women's volleyball. Its very disappointing they never got to meet in the Olympics and a gold medal match of Larissa v Kerri would have made up for that a little. Neither woman is the player they were though and I think that showed in this event.
