I guess we’ll see. The own and operate the Sunshine qualifier. Along with BJNC and GJNC and Opens. So it’s not like they don’t have the staffing in place to host large events. They have to hire Independent contractors to run their Championship events (Opens, GJNC, BJNC, 18s)... and those staff have been gutted over the last few years... It takes the willingness to spend money to make money... and history says USAV isn't always willing to do that... HPs should have been a HUGE money maker... and rather than invest in the groundwork already there they bailed on it... I think the USAV events staff does an outstanding job of using what they do have... but they are not equipped to run a NQ that would compare with the $$ spent by a group the likes of Windy City, Lonestar, Big South, etc... Again, they already do it for one qualifier (Sunshine). Scaling up is certainly easier than starting from scratch.

No doubt it was a two birds with one rock situation for them, but HILARIOUS that this happened. What a dumb way to lose a huge moneymaker, Crossroads. Lol. I bet they run this event as a Non Qualifying tournament one way orthe other... the demographics of the teams playing may shift... but I bet it still runs... Definitely could, although the attendance would drop sharply as a non-qualifier.

Definitely could, although the attendance would drop sharply as a non-qualifier. The reality is that the majority of teams at qualifiers are drive-ins of teams that essentially have zero chance of qualifying. The high end teams certainly won’t make the trip. But I bet they still fill the convention center for one weekend. (The tournament had been held over two weekends for a while now)

You don't think USAV sees the income that the girls qualifiers make, and don't want a much bigger piece of that pie? somebody has to pay for CEO's salary.... I don't think USA Volleyball has either the will or the capacity to take on more than they already do. Even if they pulled the bids from crossroads, I'm sure it would still continue. called it....

How many millions of dollars did the Denver economy just lose over something that could have been resolved so easily?
So what’s the process of selecting a new city to host a qualifier? Is it a bidding process? I could see SLC trying since they lost Triple Crown.

Kay is NEVER going to JVA Never say never. She is an opportunist. She also vehemently hates rick butler and regardless of how many people say he is not involved, there is no chance he does not collect some sort of paycheck or residuals still. I can not see her ever contributing to his pocket. Besides, like others have said she can still run this tourney because when you take away the open divisions you still have a massive amount of attendance. She loses the prestige of handing out bids, but will still collect that check with ease. Parents look for consistency, and for every parent that is used to attending this tourney or plans around it, will continue to hope their club puts it on the schedule.

One of the reasons SLC lost triple crown is because their airport isn’t particularly big and airfare to get to the event was out of control. Can’t see them drawing a big field.

Yea right, I don't believe for a second that in no way shape or form, does he not collect something from this organization. Just like spvb may not be in his name anymore, or they may have split it up between a bunch of llc's and other non profits, but that man absolutely still makes money in all the ways he was before, just maybe a little less these days.

Is that any worse than Reno or Spokane? I'd say it is actually a bit better airport than those 2.

It is disappointing that USAV is going to punish someone for doing what they felt they had to do in order to operate an event under COVID guidelines. To my knowledge Crossroads has never banned infants from their events in the past and I can only assume would not do so in the future. Crossroads typically goes out of their way to make it a family friendly event (inflatable bounce houses, puppies, and discounts to local activities). For those that have gone out of their way to "CANCEL" Crossroads, I fear you may regret the short-sighted reaction. There is a reason this event is typically a favorite among athletes, families, and college coaches.

Kay kicking out a working mother with her breastfeeding infant was the short sighted reaction here, lets not get it confused. People are not rushing to cancel crossroads, they are rushing to greatly criticize Kay's decision making. I would love to be a fly on the wall to hear the BS excuse she will feed the parents that pay her a ton of money to train and be a role model/example for also teaching non volleyball life lessons when not playing or practicing. Everyone's true colors eventually get exposed, USAV and the convention center were quick to distance themselves from her terrible excuses. If you want to be upset about something, be upset that Kay is old and out of touch to the point she destroyed the hard work lots of other people did for her to help her get this tourney to where it is today in a single weekend.
