As the world turns; as of this morning they are thinking they will award points now That's good to hear! There are so few opportunities this year for the players, it would be crazy to not award points to the teams who follow all the protocols and jump through all the hoops to be eligible to play. I could see why a team who is going to the Olympics could weigh the risks and decide it's not worth it. A false positive test, like Mol had, and now you're not going to the Olympics. Assuming the prize payout is the same as any other 4 Star, they are also passing up the last chance to earn FIVB money until WTF in September. I guess I see the point about not wanting to risk testing positive for COVID right before the Olympics though. Plenty of other teams seem to be ok with that risk. Are the teams skipping Gstaad then going to avoid training with any teams who do play it?

Switzerland has Covid restrictions on certain countries. And the old American teams prefer to rest

I imagine Australia isn’t planning to go home after they leave for Gstaad until after Tokyo.

I’m guessing NORCECA continental cup. But seeding already happened today, wouldn’t it be too late to withdraw (with fees)?

Given the professional disaster that ensues from contracting Covid, for the life of me I cannot fathom any athlete not getting vaccinated. This has nothing to do with politics... just insurance against being kicked out of an event for testing positive, or getting stuck in quarantine half way across the world.

Seeding is out! T2 is currently sitting in the 18th spot, and that would put them in pool B with Qatar and Samoilovs/Smedins if nothing changed from here on out. BVTEP is right ahead of them at 17th, so assuming Ermacora is still hurt and won't be able to play, they will move up at least one spot. That would put them in Pool A with the Vikings and Andre/George. Looks like no CQ on the men's side. Budinger/Patterson are currently Q8, with Schalk/Brunner right behind them at Q9. If nothing changes, they would be in the same flight and potentially have to play each other to make the MD, but if one team ahead, like BTVEP drops, they will no longer have a chance of playing each other. Evans/Kolinske are down at Q13. Brazil, Germany, and Russia do have CQs, so depending on which teams win those, the seeding could change farther in the Q. We will see how many teams drop out from here. Martin Ermacora is already starting to practice again. He is hoping to play the continental cup next week (let's see how that goes), but I think it's fairly certain that he will play in Gstaad. Don't think that they will drop out. By the way, in your mind games you forgot that Krattiger/Breer will be seeded 8th as the highest ranked home country team which will put BVTEP down to #18 and T2 to #19.

That's good to hear that he is back on the sand already! We will see how the Continental Cup plays out and if any additional federations pull out from Gstaad. I would expect at least a few teams to drop out, as has happened before every tournament this year. So strange to see only one American team in the main draw!

Perhaps the recent experiences of John Rahm and Chris Paul will change some minds.

All three men's teams are through to the second round of the Q. Chaim/Theo had a bye, and they will play Faiga/Ohana, that Israeli team who pushed T2 to 3 in Cancun, in their play-in match.
Casey/Chase beat Szalankiewicz/Miszczuk from Poland in three in their first round match (21-19, 17-21, 15-12), and they will play Q1 Seidl/Waller to make the MD.
Kolinske/Evans make it past a local team, Zürcher/Jordan (28/26, 21-19), and will play Dziadkou/Piatrushka from Bulgaria off a bye to break through.

Safe to say this first set is not going well for Casey/Chase.

Safe to say this first set is not going well for Casey/Chase. Chase looks awful. Gotta wonder if he’s injured.

When was the last time they competed?
I feel like Casey is more into pickle ball than volleyball now.

Horl/Kindl (Austria) forfeit due to injury. Walkenhorst/Winter into MD.
