Norway finishes 5th going down in straight sets to Russia. Probably coming back down on earth a bit or teams have figured out how to play against them? Because ever since Cancun, they haven’t reached the semifinals. It looks like going after Mol is the way to go. He can be spectacular, but he makes more errors than Sorum. Agreed. Also sorum is a far worse setter, so serving mol tough seems to be the best way to get this team OOS

Impressive win by NED. Lots of errors by Qatar in the 3rd but still well deserved. …also did you notice that the NED defender is only 21?!

Yes but I’m in Switzerland - here they show the semifinals, finals and some earlier games with Swiss teams on one of the major public TV channels.

What happened to Mols/Sorum? They've lost quite early in the last few tournaments. Also, will this young NED team be at the Olympics?

No, the young Dutch team will not be at the Olympics. Netherlands was unable to secure a second spot in the Continental Qualifiers. Switzerland won the bid. (But even if the Dutch had won, I think they would’ve sent Varenhorst/Van de Velde). The only Dutch mens team will be Brouwer/Meeuwsen.

They lost against Krasilnikov/Stoyanovsky (who kinda seem to be their Kryptonite). The Russians played very well so there's no shame in losing to them. Stoyanovsky is a beast! However the last three tournaments must have hurt Norway's confidence quite a bit and that's not how anyone wants to head into the Olympics. At the moment it seems like serving Mol is the way to beat Norway because he doesn't pass the ball as well as Sorum and he makes more mistakes. However I wouldn't just blame him for their poor results lately. Sorum hasn't been playing well either imo. Seems like he plays better when he gets served all the time rather than just every now and then. I think the Olympics will be super exciting because there are so many teams now on the tour that could win the whole thing. You really can't tell who's going to be on the podium in the end.

More spectacular swings, but also more errors. Interesting point about their setting- they said on a podcast that Christian actually does handset well, but they actively choose to have him bumpset because his accuracy is so high. Maybe this is an area we see them change their game in. Giving Mol different looks could take some of the pressure off his shoulders. Also on a sidenote I didn't think Sorum got enough credit for his part on that team siding out point after point after point. If it turns out the 6'7 Mol is the weak link I think Sorum proves himself as one of the best sideout players in the game beyond a doubt. Fingers crossed they fix things and bring home the gold in Tokyo.

This reminds me a bit of Sinjin and Stoklos back in the day when it took players a long time to realize that it wasn't a good idea to serve Sinjin because he was super consistent and Randy was a great setter.

To be fair it was Mol's injury what really slowed them down and also the reason why teams started to serve Mol. Apparently he's got micro fractures in both legs. I mean he looked healthy in Gstaad but maybe he has not regained complete trust in his body yet which often becomes more of a mental than physical issue.

All true, but they never stopped serving Singin. Randy was too scary, almost impossible to dig or block, and Singin was a very good setter. They did start mixing it up a little.
