Skinner gets silver on the vault finals, Lee gets bronze on uneven bars. Rooting for Jade Carey to medal on floor! Way to go Mykayla. Great work.

Jade Carey gets gold on floor! Tie for bronze between Japan and ROC. Biles is planning to compete on beam finals.

Glad to see Jade win the floor exercise! Funny how Carey and Skinner get individual medals, when they were passed over for Jordan and Grace. It felt like this whole event was trying to hype Grace as Biles 2.0 or Biles & bff success story (even when she struggled the entire meet).

I never got the Grace as Biles 2.0 hype that you're referring to. She was in a tight race with Skinner for the 4th spot so I don't think that was the case at all. Not surprised that Carey & Skinner won individual medals either. That was kind of the point of the individual spots. The only thing that was a little surprising at trials was Skinner & Carey were both selected & they both are strong on floor & vault. I thought maybe the other individual spot would have went to a bars/beam specialist, but it was slim pickings, especially after McCusker fell at Trials.

Because Carey elected to accept the guaranteed spot (before the deadline) she earned through pts qualifying she didn’t compete all around at trials. Barring no major mistakes she likely would have scored comfortably ahead of both Grace & MS. Possibly pushed Chiles. The whole mechanism is FIG idiocy. But Tom Forster didn’t help matters. He wasn’t happy Jade decided to go this route which she was perfectly within her rights to do. She didn’t write the rules. She could have (officially) given up her guaranteed spot, preserved two apparatus noms, and given the all around a go. But she knew she couldn’t count on Tom to keep her seat warm. Even though it would be in his & the team’s interest to see what she was capable of in the AA. Obviously, MS only got the opportunity to medal because of Simone’s withdrawal. It doesn’t change the fact that McCusker made a lot more sense if your goal was to maximise medals.

One of my gymnastics fanatic friends says her coach had very good reason to suspect USA Gym would screw her over if given the chance, but that friend is also super dramatic.

One of my gymnastics fanatic friends says her coach had very good reason to suspect USA Gym would screw her over if given the chance, but that friend is also super dramatic. There has been tension between Forster & Carey’s camp (which also includes McCusker who was left off the team) for some time. He flatly stated that if she wanted to qualify for a team spot she would have to finish in the top 2 at trials. So in other words secure an automatic qualification. He was letting her know that she wouldn’t receive a discretionary nomination to the 4 person team. Performance or value to the team was irrelevant. If she turned down the event app spot she earned, preserving the 2 slots for the US, to pursue a team nomination she could have still been given the discretionary nomination as an event specialist should she fail to make (or be named) to the 4 person team. FIG doesn’t take away a spot unless the gymnast qualified and accepted the guaranteed nom through accumulated WC pts & then is named to the team event. Jade as a discretionary pick wouldn’t do that.

So what do you guys think of Bile's Bronze? Its an individual event. Awesome for her to come back from pretty much vertigo and be the third best in the world at it.

Who's up for the REAL gymnastics to start tonight? Rhythmic!
As someone who was in guard for a couple of years, I have an affinity towards people throwing random objects up in the air, catching them and then dancing around.

Balance Beam: Biles - bronze Suni Lee - 5th China go 1-2 Guan Chenchen was amazing totally deserving gymnast with the highest beam routine in the world right now. She has a potential start value of 7.1 - can't wait to see her at worlds and beyond!
