So we have: April and Alix Claes and Sponcil (assuming they stick together) Kloth and Nuss EmDay and Betsi (assuming they stick together, probably not contenders internationally)
Available blockers: Kolinske Chrissy Jones-Shunderwood (sp?) Cannon? (probably not good enough to contend)
Available defenders: Stockman (has points, has looked bad without Kolinske) Muno (high upside) Hughes (stock down, but has some points)
Wildcards: KWJ - does she continue? Brooke - does she continue? Karissa Cooke - could she be a factor with the right partner?
Torey van Winden - how bad was her injury? how good is she? Megan Kraft - does she try to balance playing internationally and playing at USC?
Who am I missing? I don't think Simo is there yet, although she would be a good pick-up for AVPs and it will be interesting to see where she's at in a year or so. I don't see Callahan or Mewhirter as really in the mix. (Delaney needs to move to defense if she has any chance.)

Spot on with your top 4 women’s teams!
I guess Kolinske and Hughes or Kolinske and Muno?

IF KWJ calls any player not April or Sponcil, they shouldn't even hang up the phone to think about it.

Really hoping TKN somehow get points and stay together. If these 3 AVP tournaments taught us anything, it's that they are a top 3 US team, probably top 2. I'd rather not see them split for partners that have points (say KWJ/Nuss and Kloth/Hughes). That said, Kolinske/Muno, even though they definitely had the easy route to the semis, have major potential. I like Zana/Crissy but if Crissy is hurt for awhile, I think it's a no brainer for both parties to stick together this quad for the time being.

I now believe that Kloth is the second best USA big behind Alix, ahead of Claes on Claes' tentative days, behind Claes on Claes' aggressive days, and will be ahead of Claes overall after another year of AVP and possibly FIVB. I want the USA to have three podium potential teams on the FIVB, so that given injuries and unexpected life events, the USA is still likely to have two strong teams qualifying for the larger FIVB events and Paris. I think Kloth and Nuss can enter lots of 2* and 3* FIVB events, win a majority of them, to build up their points. I hope USAVB will find some way to make that financially doable b/c you can't make a living self funding those trips until you start getting top 5 finishes in 4* events. And maybe they just enter every 4*, play several other USA teams (Kolinske/partner, Cannon/Partner, Day/Flint, Big+Hughes) in Country Quota, to get into Qualifiers, then get into the Draw that way. Still, how do they fund all those overseas trips? Let me ask a technical FIVB question -- how many teams are allowed to enter an event through Country Quota to fight it out for that one CQ spot?

So.eone was saying the team needs 400 points for cq. I don't see any way Kloss and Knuss can even enter a 1 star. They will need to play with others to get to 400 to even do the cqs

Problem is, there are 20+ other US women who’ve been playing FIVB the last couple years and have built up some points, unlike TKN, who have zero. None of these women are going to volunteer to stay home just so TKN can play. Maybe USAV can pull some strings and get them a wild card or two. Even better, start hosting and promoting FIVB events state side. Or maybe a NORCECA will help. But otherwise it’s gonna be hard for TKN to get started earning points together.

I am not sure there is a cap on the court teams.

Any team can enter but the points cutoff depends on the size of the field and the number of points the lowest qualifier team has (including other countries). I think what happens is a bunch of teams sign up, and then when they see the other teams many will realize they don’t have enough points and just withdraw.

1 and 2 Stars are smaller fields so I’m not sure if 4 is still the max in the main draw. Three US teams are signed up for a 1 star next week in the Netherlands but several others have already dropped out.

OK, so USAV will have to figure out what is in the best interest of USAV and manage FIVB tournament entries with policy change. Right now it is a free for all, open market, first come first served situation... and the 2nd or 3rd best team to represent the USA on the FIVB (I'd argue for 2nd) is stuck in red tape because they're new, and will not be able to enter tournaments for the foreseeable future. Frozen out by FIVB tournament entry policy, not USAV policy. The only way for TKN to enter FIVB 3* and 4* tournaments in 2022 would be for the USAV Board, as the official Federation, to take over control of who gets to wear the USA jersey on the FIVB, and use a rolling 12 month average finish on the AVP as a supplement to FIVB points as the guide to ranking... Then teams ranked 1-6 get to enter FIVB, with teams 7 - ? in order only to replace a team ranked 1-6 that doesn't use their spot, not the current free for all. USAV has to engineer around an FIVB policy that hurts USA podium chances.

I'd like to add a different point of view here: To me it is incomprehenspible why the AVP does not have some sort of agreement with the FIVB so that finishes at the AVP also award FIVB points. If they could strike an agreement to count AVP tournaments like NORCECA events or 1* or maybe even 2* events it would extremly lower the entry hurdle for US teams. This could even be capped for the top 8 or 12 team in order to not inflate the points of the US teams too much. Such an agreement would make it possible for young, talented teams to quickly enter FIVB events.
Here in Europe the former European tour awarded FIVB points and gave teams a good chance to gain points in order to enter 1* and 2* events. There still exist some zonal events which award points just below 1* events. There also exist some special rules at the European 1* events: Each nation that hosts a 1* event gets at least a qualifier place for the other 1* events in Europe. My point here is that the FIVB obviously is able to grant exceptions, so I assume that some sort of compromise between the FIVB and the AVP would be possible.

acrossthepond, that just makes too much sense for the AVP and the FIVB to ever do something like that! /sarcasm
In all seriousness, I've thought for a while that the FIVB should stop trying to run all levels of events all over the world and partner with regional tours instead. They could facilitate regional tours in places that don't have established ones and perhaps provide some financial assistance to existing tours to boost prize money. Those tours could then serve as the qualifiers for a few big 5-star-type events where the top players from around the world would compete against each other.
