I've said this before, but I think that every Stanford team I've seen in the past 15+ years tries to win 'nicely'. They play hard enough to try to win w/o giving it everything to win big. That means they end up giving up points that can bite them later. I've never seen them (in the regular season) have the all out 'crush the opponent' mentality and intensity of (say) a Russ Rose team throughout a match. They often only really turn it on if they are behind later in the match. It can be frustrating. At the same time, it makes me like them more somehow.

All of the Pac-12 stats seem to have died. What was the fourth set score?

All of the Pac-12 stats seem to have died. What was the fourth set score? 25-14. I’m trying to see how many assists Miner ended up with cuz it was definitely north of 50 lol

Hentz was amazing. But, I think these DSs would look a lot better if they were playing behind the monster block that Hentz had in front of her during her entire Stanford career. 6’4”, 6’6”, 6’6”… It’s not like we have a small block.

Looked like Fidelak gave the team a spirited talk after the first set.

Looked like Fidelak gave the team a spirited talk after the first set. It wasn't pretty. Stanford's D and blocking look totally unprepared in set one. Fortunately, the Card made some adjustments defensively moving Oglivie into the angle and covering zones 1 and 6 better. The blocking got better too, but it is very much a work in progress.

Just checked my DVR, and discovered that Pac-12 BA carried USC vs. UCLA instead of this match. WTF?

Miner with 60 assists in a 4 set match. Jiminy Christmas.
Also, as a huge Stanford fan, I LOVE WATCHING MIMA MIRKOVIC PLAY VOLLEYBALL. She is such a talented all around player and doesn't get enough recognition imo.

Just checked my DVR, and discovered that Pac-12 BA carried USC vs. UCLA instead of this match. WTF? It was on PAC-12 Bay Area, not on the main PAC-12 channel, at least on FuboTV. I checked my recording; the correct game was stored.
Last year I noticed Sling recorded the wrong match on one of my scheduled recordings, so I switched this year.

Still too many points bumbled away, but good match from Stanford's pins, anyway. Great match from Francis- not only 19 kills, but a lot of her balls that got dug came back as free balls. I though Oglivie and the DS contingent were doing a little better with picking up short balls.

Cal will show up and compete and play as hard they can. "I CALLED IT" They didn’t give up, but as a fan, I wanted them to win. They may never be the same after Mirkovic leaves. Hopefully Pantovic can fill that void (she’s on concussion protocol right now)

Stanford dominated Cal in the serve pass game, passing a 2.29 on the match with the Bears at 1.94. Francis also did a good job of not taking bad swings. As she learns how to handle OOS balls she will carry more of the offense against tougher serving teams. I'd like to see Kipp get more control on her bic and limit the errors. She had 3 in Ro4 last night. It was the one sticky rotation for Stanford. Cal need to pass better.
