48 assists (12.00/set), 17 digs, three aces, three kills, three blocks. She had hitters with 15 (Kubik), 14 (Stivrins and Caffey), and 13 (Krause) kills. And she surpassed 4,000 assists. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nicklin receive B1G Setter of the Week. You can say all that you want about Nicklin (and a lot of you have), but the balanced offense she’s been running is a thing of beauty. Coaches would kill to have four players in double-digits against a solid defensive and top 10 team. And some of those plays she was making were stupid good - offensively and defensively. If Lexi or Ally (or whoever) can consistently put pressure on a team’s defense and not give away points, then this team will be hard to stop the second half of conference - regardless of who the opponent is. I don’t think Nebraska needs another terminal outside right now - they just need someone who can continue to keep a defense on their toes. Good take, especially about Nicklin. She and Roddy put on a defensive clinic! And the passing was good enough for her to really run that offense.

There’s something off about Batenhorst’s swing. I’m not saying it’s bad but it’s almost as if she feels like she has to drop her elbow due to lower and quicker sets? Her approach is very interesting as well...she kinda gallops towards the ball and it slows her down. I don't know though maybe I'm the only one that notices this lol I didn’t really take note of that but when I think about it I kinda see what you mean.

They’re not maximizing her height. Hames sets her too low and she winds up swinging at a low ball in front of her rather than at the peak of her jump with a fully extended arm swing.

It’s the exact same set and height in which the exact same player had 14 kills and hit .375 vs PSU and 8 kills at .345 vs Michigan just two weeks ago. It’s also the exact same ball, the high reaching Kubik is going offf on. Let’s put the responsibility where it should be.

Post Game Presser Kayla Caffey and Madi Kubik John Cook @ 11:05 I feel like coach is still looking for that L1 starting spot...interested to see how Wednesday night goes vs Wisconsin. After this game I feel like it would be so hard not to consider putting Krause on the left side. She is doing great at both pins. So excited for Wendesday! There is absolutely zero chance they are moving Krause, nor should they.

I hear what you are saying, but I am surprised that she did not come out super motivated to win her spot back. Edit: makes me think there maybe a common reason behind her losing her spotting spot and her tentative play since. Whatever, hope she gets going and back to previous playing level. You don’t think she’s “motivated” to win her spit back?? IDK, I used "super motivated" terminology. I kind of expect some extra zip on her hits and/or some very crafty hitting. Kubik has definitely stepped up her hitting game this year. Sun has not, from what I have seen. Maybe my evaluation is bad, very possible.

I think your evaluation is fair regarding her play, it’s just not due to lack of motivation IMO

Post Game Presser Kayla Caffey and Madi Kubik John Cook @ 11:05 What is the song and lyrics Coach Cook is referring to? I missed it during the game. The song was a volleyball-specific version of “The Cornhusker”, sung by the Killigans. They did a great job with it and the crowd (especially the students) ate it up. They played it between the third and fourth sets if memory serves me correctly. I looked for the video online but haven’t seen it anywhere. Here's the original lyrics (written in 1909) as performed by the Killigans: The Cornhusker

Can’t they both share the responsibility of improving? Hames can improve on the consistency/placement of her setting and Ally B. can improve on killing a less than perfect set.

Cook admitted that they sped up the tempo to Kubik starting in Big Ten play...it has obviously helped Madi. It could also be true that Hames is setting the same sped-up ball to Batenhorst and she may* do better with a higher ball.
