It seems to me they are setting a quicker tempo. Is that a factor? Cook admitted that they sped up the tempo to Kubik starting in Big Ten play...it has obviously helped Madi. It could also be true that Hames is setting the same sped-up ball to Batenhorst and she may* do better with a higher ball. (off topic but) 🌚🌚🌚 (also deleted is me.. my poor credit lol) I think Kubik needs an offense that's not moonballs, it doesn't fit her skillset. I'm also not convinced a faster/quicker set would particularly help her excel, @avid , if that's what you're getting at? She's not particularly quick or explosive. I think it would be better for her style than moonballs. It doesn't even have to be super fast a la Kentucky, but something that's not where she's stopping and adjusting her approach every swing. I think she would thrive in the 2017 Albrecht role.

Again, that doesn’t explain how Batenhorst was able to tear it up vs Penn St and Michigan. She is getting the same ball now as she did when she was having terrific success. There is a general misconception that setting a higher ball to attackers struggling to kill the ball or making errors will help them have success. Higher balls also leads to better block set up and organized floor defense. I’m not sure if it would help or not, I just know that she has had some really good success with the same ball she is struggling with now. If this is the wrong ball for her to be set, how was she able to be successful and why would she be regressing? She needs to own her play which I’m sure she is doing.

Were there some of the 22/23 recruits at the game? I saw the 22's on the tv coverage a couple of times (last at timeout near end of the 4th). Does anybody know if the recruits have access to the locker room before and after the game?

I think we have some waiting to do.

The connection between Hames and Ally is a little of both for me. I am sure the staff is working on it. It was fine for PSU match and I am sure they (both players and staff) can get it there again.

Very good point. I recall someone saying that they miss the old Lexi from last year. Of course we all miss that old Lexi who was confident and played more freely. It must have been so hard for Lexi to loose her starting spot to a freshman. She is resilient though and that's her strength. I hope after tonight she gained some confidence and begins to start playing like her old self but even more improved I hear what you are saying, but I am surprised that she did not come out super motivated to win her spot back. Edit: makes me think there maybe a common reason behind her losing her spotting spot and her tentative play since. Whatever, hope she gets going and back to previous playing level. Not sure that's a thing Lexi does. She just plays.

Jazz Sweet liked a higher ball and was consistently stuffed on quicker sets. He even said *may, as you also indicated by stating you weren’t sure if it would work or not. So trying it for an OH that is 6’4 with a tremendous reach is a plausible scenario…regardless of whatever “general misconception” you are referring to. Clearly the quicker sets aren't working..

Might bode well for Wednesday, as senior Hames better equipped to address than freshman Batenhorst. Or just play Sun, she should be able to play the faster, lower set. Sun can also play OPP, and her and Krause can continue to switch OH & OPP. I think that disrupts the other team's blocking. Time will tell. Look for Coach Cook to address or at least try to address the Batenhorst/Sun slump.

Just curious, how far into the Nebraska-Purdue match was it when the Wisconsin-Penn State marathon finally finished, and BTN switched over?
