Due to non-Covid related illness within the Rutgers program WTF? That’s all the email said.

Guess our RPI won't have to suffer the Rutgers effect.
Are they not going to Lincoln the next night either?

Does this mean the Rutgers @ Nebraska match on Saturday is also likely to be cancelled?

That’s all the email said. In the spring, Northwestern did the same sort of "non-COVID" cancellation (did we ever get a full story on that?). But if its not COVID, then the flu? Why not just say so?

The flu has definitely hit some teams that have had to play through it. I'm not sure at what point you cancel rather than play down a few players.

I've been wondering if teams (society) would start treating other contagious diseases more seriously.
Also, this could be something like norovirus, which is quite nasty and has shut down college campuses and cancelled games in the past. I remember having a breakout on campus one year, our cross country team landing in Chicago for a meet at Notre Dame, and them being told by ND to turn around and go home.

Does this mean the Rutgers @ Nebraska match on Saturday is also likely to be cancelled? One would think, unless they have some kind of odd illness that is OK one day later.

Sounds like shingles.

The possibilities are broader than illness. The official language is, "The decision not to travel to Minnesota was supported by the Big Ten Conference and was made out of an abundance of caution surrounding the health and safety of the participants due to matters unrelated to COVID."

So I just pulled up the match cancel - forfeit policy the Big Ten announced in August, and it seems to go out of its way to imply that it is a COVID-specific policy. That is, does anybody know if this match (or these matches, assuming Saturday vs Nebraska also is off) count as forfeit wins from Minn and Nebraska, or "no contest"? bigten.org/sports/2021/8/23/GEN_0823214746.aspx

That is very interesting language in the release.

Looks like it counts as a dub for the Gophers? Or Emily has it backwards.
