Seems like filling the last at large spots is taking longer than usual. Last I looked there was a spot in 17s, 15s, and 14s. Any idea what’s the holdup or thoughts on who might get the remaining spots?

A lot of the top teams, if they didn't qualify for USAV, made arrangements to attend AAUs, so that's flights booked and hotels reserved. And, the cost of Nationals in Indy this year is a bit ridiculous. For us, we qualified in mid-April, booked our plane tickets the next week, and they were nearly $1200 per person with very few flight options. It may not be worth it for teams to accept a bid now.

It may just be the updating of the website, as well....our region awarded our bids the 2nd week of May..and it isn't updated on USAV's website, yet....

I think the poster was referring to the Open At Large bids. And the teams that would generally be in line for those would go to AAUs if they didn't qualify at Nationals. So they may be having a hard time getting teams to change plans this late. But for the regions, seems like several have only conferred their bids recently.

But I’d bet there are a lot of teams in line for an Open bid already in the National field. Cost to fly into Indy is outrageous. I talked to an AZ club director at a qualifier and was told the same thing you mentioned - around $1200. Hard to believe though they can’t find a team already with a bid in National that’s within driving distance in each of those age groups.

Looks like Top Select got the last 17 Open Slot.
Good luck to all the team going to USA Nationals and AAU Nationals.
This year the NIT Presidents Day had 160 of the 192 teams that qualified Open 14's though 18's. That is the most ever at the NIT.
Thanks and good Luck!

In many ways, winning NIT is harder than winning nationals. With the “power pools” there’s just nowhere to hide. You pretty much have to beat EVERYBODY. You can get pretty deep at nationals without facing the best competition. Sooner or later, yes it’s on. But often not until day 3.

Who finishes top 5 in 17u nationals this year. It definitely will be a battle.

I've always marveled at how two clubs from San Diego (Wave and Coast) can remain so competitive year in and year out. Is it that San Diego has all that volleyball talent? Or are these two very well run clubs with good coaching? Or a little of both?
What other cities have two clubs competing almost every year for top ten status in almost every age group?

Top 3 finish at Triple Crown with its only loss to Drive. Don't count out the Tx teams either.. they tend to pull it together when its time.

Chicago doesn't get enough props for its level of talent.
