Polish news says FIVB told them IOQT info/dates will be released "some time this year".... lol ok thanks.
In other sports, USA Boxing is boycotting their world championships due to the full participation of Russia/Belarus (along with other issues with the boxing federation). The president of the boxing federation is Russian and the prize money is sponsored by Gazprom.
(IBA, the federation, has been suspended by the IOC due to their financial history and history of rigging the sport)... Boxing olympic qualification events will happen at the Pan Am Games.
not 100% related and maybe not 100% relevant... but the first USA boycott that I've seen.

I wonder what NBC's broadcast deal with the IOC looks like. If a USA boycott will significantly reduce payouts to the IOC, the boycott will have teeth.

If a USA boycott will significantly reduce payouts to the IOC, the boycott will have teeth. I was actually thinking/talking to someone about this. IOC is gonna have to cater to what NBC wants (and by extent, USOPC).. by my math, each olympic cycle (from the previous winter to summer olympics) is worth over $800 million to the IOC from NBC... (its over 7 billion in total)... for comparison, Europe's in total TV deal is worth less than half of that (for 2018-2024... the games after that havent been disclosed financially yet) They can have an olympics without Russia. They cannot have one without USA.

I just want the damn hosts/pools PLEASE Japan and a Euro country have been confirmed. the last one will probably be China or Serbia if Russia is allowed to compete... otherwise who knows. if FIVB allows Russia in, they'll have to figure out how to configure the pools (shades of second world Rio qualification)

They can have an olympics without Russia. They cannot have one without USA. We also can't have an olympics without IOQT pools/hosts, yet FIVB is sleeping on this.

if FIVB allows Russia in, they'll have to figure out how to configure the pools (shades of second world Rio qualification) 5 pools of 5 teams, winner of each pool advance and top 6 world ranking teams round out the remaining 11 spots.

France
Kenya
I'm not entirely opposed to it. OQT tourneys are not that interesting anyways.

OQT tourneys are not that interesting anyways. turkey 2019 Poland had a chance until Serbia decided to just set Boskovic over and over again at the end of the 4th set, but Turkey lost 0-3 and scored like -18-12-18 lol

Well that's debatable. 2019 had good matches besides the China and Italy pool. USA and Brazil almost didnt make it, Korea almost beat Russia. Poland was two points from taking Serbia to a fifth. Imagine the Euro qualifier mess if it had Serbia, Turkey, Russia, Netherlands in it.

OQT tourneys are not that interesting anyways. Anyways my point is that everyone is divided into 3 4 or 6 groups, winning the group is not THAT significant like winning VNL is (there's no trophy/title) but it's hugely important because the olympics are everything in volleyball.
Even Euro finals are more interesting from a sporting perspective IMO.
