Is Sharone even a good beach player? I didn't see him on the Canadian VNL squad. Is he committing to beach volleyball? I think I read that he played beach competitively at the junior levels but I don’t know how accurate that is - Marshall is a very good beach partner though. I’ll try to catch a match or two of theirs this weekend. No idea if he’ll ever be with the men’s indoor national team again. Wish I knew the full story of why he suddenly dropped off the national team scene so soon while seemingly being a world class hitter (at times) and having tons of potential. Do you know if there is a stream? I'll try to watch some of his rallies and games if possible.

Surprised to see Brazilian Alvaro Filho in this, playing with a local Vancouver guy - they’re on centre court now.

Surprised to see Brazilian Alvaro Filho in this, playing with a local Vancouver guy - they’re on centre court now. Fun first day of the Vancouver Open. Teams desperately avoided Filho and served Orman 100% of the balls. Super cool to see Filho come out but unfortunately ran into Schacter and Dearing who really took advantaged of a tired Orman. Krause and Canadian indoor legend Vigrass would've been a better match-up for Schacter/Dearing but were eeked out 16-14 to Filho/Orman the match just prior.
SVE and Marshall look... impressively athletic, but kind of meh looking on sand. Especially SVE. Their physicality definitely beat up some weaker teams today, but won't be near good enough against the better teams tomorrow.
Bansley still looks in great form. I wouldn't be surprised if Sophie and Bansley make a good run at being the #2 pair and challenging MHP/Brandie real quick.

Not able to make it out to Kits beach today. The Austrian duo look really impressive btw - dunno if they’re still in the running. Agreed that SVE looks kinda… uncomfortable on the sand. Edit: Wow Austrians vs Dearing and Schachter on centre court livestream next.

WA Huskies pair Chloe Loreen and Natalie Robinson are giving Bukovec and Bansley everything they can handle right now in the semi-finals.
Update: Sophie and Heather through to the finals.

Heather and Sophie beat Skjodt and Malaney in 3 sets in the final. Heather with some amazing defence in the final stages of the third especially.

Lots of fun two days that I went. It seemed like Sophie and specifically Heather had an extra gear when they needed it, and same to a degree for Schacter and Dearing. I took some photos may try and post some a bit later when I have them all downloaded.

I'm calling it right now. SVE and Marshall break up within a year. Marshall gets sick of SVE's %*$# and retires and SVE quits to go back to making money indoor. SVE is a horrible beach player. Slow, zero effort, lazy. Dude doesn't look like he wants to actually be there. If they cant beat a young random team from Ontario they have zero hope.
Heather looks like she hasn't lost a step. Wouldn't be surprised to see them making a big run at qualifying for the Olympics. Sophie's passing is the only thing stopping that duo.

So after this would you guys say
1. MHP/Brandie 2. Sophie/Heather 3. Pavan/McBain
Just asking, as I'm not super familiar with how these new teams are panning out other than Brandie and MHP

If Sophie and HB make it, that would be a pretty good storyline with HB coming out of retirement to play.
