I might just start my own league too
(Honestly this sounds great but why is everyone and their mom starting one all of a sudden)

They can do both to start out. This puts LOVB in a hard spot, especially if this new one has the funding to give 60k/player.... LOVB cant do that. VLA seems more semi-amateur than a pro league.

One difference is that AU and LOVB teams are league owned. This league will have owners or ownership groups.
Second is that there are some recognizable veteran volleyball names involved.
LOVB has made noises without plans to include local clubs, which makes it kind of like European clubs, but we have no idea what these professional team operations would look like.
AU is the known quantity, at least a couple of seasons worth.

I wonder if they can convince any foreigners to come here. Obviously not the big names but if 60k is really the minimum, I would say yes.

Talking with several players that play overseas currently. This would be extremely attractive. So many want to play at home.

at this rate we'll have enough leagues to put on our own continental club championship

A few notable things and a few glaring ones:
1. It's called the Pro Volleyball Federation, but where is the actual Federation, USA Volleyball, in all of this? Reynaud was on the Board of USAV, but there's no mention, endorsement or coordination of USAV. And,oh yeah, Reynaud also brought us Jamie Davis, so there's that to consider as well. Hopefully, she's not the one making the serious management decisions for how the league operates. 2. There are only two confirmed locations/teams, so that suggests that the others are not quite wrapped up yet, or they are hoping the announcement will jump-start their efforts to get more ownership groups on board. With guaranteed salaries, each ownership group is looking at about $2-3 per year in expenditures for salaries and operations. How the relationship between the Federation and the owner-group's is structured is going to be crucial (especially in terms of revenue distribution, e.g. media rights, etc). 3. It doesn't appear that they have a media deal yet. These are obviously not volleyball people, but it may not matter if having a background in media helps them negotiate a decent one. 4. This announcement effectively forces LOVB to accelerate their plans/disclosure or look towards merging or cooperating with this Federation.
