Arizona beat Maryland Colorado swept Illinois and Iowa Stanford beat @nebraska and @minnesota (Lost to PSU in 5) Utah went 5 w/ Purdue @purdue Oregon did lose to both PSU and Minnesota (@minnesota) Washington beat Illinois, Iowa, and Northwestern Washington State lost to Minnesota So PAC is 8-5 against B1G this year. Can we stop the narrative that the B1G is just so ridiculously better than the PAC?? it’s never gonna stop I'm fighting a losing battle so I'm going to stop, and I admit that I know less about the sport than all of you. Purely from the eye test and a novice analytical standpoint, I'm just been more impressed by B1G matches. This may be due to homerism bias, TV production, etc. The tournament may very well prove me wrong and that I'm overrating the Big Ten, but I'm excited to see what unfolds.

so since Arizona beat Maryland, and Maryland beat Ohio State, and Ohio State beat Louisville, im thinking Arizona should be in the tournament and at #2 right ahead of Louisville🤣

We are all coming after you because you are ridiculously overrating the lesser teams in the conference who aren’t nearly as good as you’re making them out to be

I could not disagree more. I’ve been watching Big Ten volleyball for many years. The parity of the league this season was amazing. Injuries created havoc with several teams, but the competition was amazing. If you watched Michigan, Maryland, Indiana, Northwestern, and even Illinois in person; you would realize how talented these teams are. Unfortunately, all of those mentioned above will not dance this December. As a new fan who started following volleyball this year, comparing Big Ten vs PAC 12 and ACC matches were night and day. I was genuinely shocked by how much more competitive a random Northwestern - Indiana match was vs a Colorado - UCLA. Mid-range B1G teams are done so dirty by RPI - I wish there were a few non-conference games later in the season so B1G RPIs could be boosted. You just started following Volleyball this year but are making eye test comparisons to determine strength of teams?

I honestly DO think it is the TV production for B1G matches that make teams look better.
The camera views, camera lenses, and lighting really do make a difference in showing. PAC matches are often much further away, darker, not high definition -- and B1G is closer and the TV viewer is part of the action -- so it feels like more intense play. It really isn't any more intense.
...and the RPI hurts the PAC teams just the same as the B1G. The RPI has WAY too much weight on opponent records, and needs to have a scale and more depth to its calculations. You can literally have a crappy record and LOST to really good teams and have a great RPI because the combined records to the teams you lost to are so good. OR you can have a really good record and have crappy opponents and have a good, inflated RPI. Both those things happen in the RPI and it's imbalanced.

Horchato was pretty humble in his last reply. I don’t think we all have to keep beating him up. The more people watching/talking about volleyball the better.
I enjoy watching the Big10 matches because the production is so clean and entertaining. Better than ESPN imo. I have seen better video quality watching D2 than some of the Pac-12 matches.

Fair enough - I should be more observant moving forward and continue learning about the sport. I've historically had a strong track record with cycling, NFL, and international soccer analysis and what comes with it, so I was probably a bit too pompous in my early stages of volleyball fandom.

The PAC networks hate volleyball, I’m convinced. And the worst offenders are the quote unquote top production schools in the nation. Truly baffling.

I don’t like watching pac matches because of the productions and it definitely does make it feel less intense

As a relative newbie, I've got a question. The 2021 tournament was one of the first series of volleyball games I've watched online - seeing all the Big Ten teams outperform their seeds (Wisconsin @ 4, Nebraska @ 10, Minnesota @ 12, and unseeded Illinois) combined with how enjoyable BTN and BIG+ are what originally convinced me that teams like Northwestern, Indiana, etc were criminally underrated.
Why was the Big Ten overlooked last year, and what has changed in 12 months that now makes the Big Ten properly rated?

So will UCLA have to improve this once they move over or will the Big10 provide it? id imagine the B1G would help. the PAC does a lot of school sponsored live streams while usually the B1G will show everything on B1G+ (I think)

Just wanted to point out that the RPI hurts the PAC more than the B1G. That’s why Pablo was invented. There isn’t enough cross-regionality between games like there is in basketball, this fewer teams existing for the P12 to schedule and inflate their RPI, then like the ACC who places a crap ton of teams who always lose early. (until recently)

Baylor choked that Minnesota match and should have won. Kentucky played terribly and then that gave Nebraska a free sweet 16 match bc cooney was out. And 4 seed winning it all isn’t really that big of a deal in terms of out performing their seed imo. The big ten was really good last year yes but that doesn’t mean teams like northwestern and Illinois are good this year. They also weren’t overlooked. They earned those seeds
