Dont quite understand some of the hand wringing here. Not sure who the AD needs to sell this to? Fans who get free admission to games?
I've gotten three texts already from prominent clubs saying this was a home run hire. Thats who this was sold to. Clubs who know Mike and know he's one of the game's best and trusted teachers. Thats how you recruit out of a middling recent history.

Mike had already been doing his due diligence to connect with the club community after the announcement of Joe's retirement, specifically expanding their recruiting base to more clubs and regions of the country. This is absolutely seen as a great hire in the club community. I am looking forward to having some athletes play for Mike in the future. |

This tweet from Bubba is an example of "losing the press conference/announcement." But that doesn't necessarily mean the hire will turn out to be a poor one. I don't like the overall vibe of the process -- if you were going to pick Mike, pick him in mid-January -- but that part of it is basically over after today. Good luck to Coach Schall. This is a really good hire, but it sure doesn't seem like this is the direction that the AD and decision makers were wanting to go. They could have named him right away - they could have done a lot of things different to set him up for success. They gave him the job but we'll see what they do in terms of supporting him and the program to make this move work. |

Rams club members like myself who donate money to the athletics department and volleyball program... and also yes to the fans who paid nothing to get in because history really shows us that the top recruits like playing in front of big, big crowds... not in front of barely 1,000 people. |
