Massey has moved The Citadel up to #90 after the Samford win, the RPI had them at #97 before that win. The Wofford match has lost much significance since they lost their last two matches, and The Citadel now appears poised to go 28-0 in the regular season. If the RPI is your guide, then The Citadel will likely be on the road at a Top 16 seeded school for their first-round match. The NCAA selection committee sometimes does weird things relative to the RPI, and I would not assume they will always use it as the primary determination for tournament seedings. For example, the 2017 Minnesota softball team was ranked among the Top 5 nationally by the polls and by the RPI at the end of the regular season. Best SB team Minnesota ever had. Alabama was ranked lower in all the polls and by the RPI. When the seedings came out, Alabama was #16 and Minnesota was not only not hosting, but was unseeded (technically #17) and had to play at Alabama in the tournament. Even after Bama eliminated Minnesota by beating them twice by 1-0 scores, Minnesota was ranked ahead of Bama in the final RPI. Zero consolation. In this case, the NCAA decided they would rather make more money with higher attendance than to follow their own RPI. web1.ncaa.org/app_data/weeklyrpi/2017WSBrpi1.html

The Citadel goes to 21-0 by dispatching Samford in Charleston, -21, -17, -18. Samford is coached by former Northwestern head coach Keylor Chan, who was once a topic of significant discussion on VT. Curious to see if Dave stays or parlays after this year. Been quite a run. I imagine a number of larger programs have him on their list of candidates. It really depends on the $$$, as always. Unless he is so in love with Charleston that he can never see himself leaving, he will probably bounce when the right offer comes along.

There is a lot of volleyball left to be played, and one stumble in the SoCon tournament will be the end of their season. If the do make the NCAA tournament, I would not be shocked if they were sent to Atlanta to play Georgia Tech in the first round. This is exactly what happened two years ago.

Do you thing they can rise that high. I don't.

The Citadel moves to 22-0 with a thrilling five-set win over UT-Chattanooga, 25-19, 22-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-12.
Things looked grim after falling behind, two sets to one and early in the fourth set. The ladies buckled down and refused to lose, as they have several times this season.
Next up are road matches at Mercer and Western Carolina.

Rank them? They have a SOS of #300….haven’t beat a top #175 team… they are undefeated, good for them, but, “rank them”? No

The Citadel defeats Mercer on the road, -21 -10 -14 to go 23-0 for the season. The Citadel scored the final 15 points in the second set. Next up, The Citadel travels to Cullowhee, NC to play Western Carolina.
Congrats to those who picked The Citadel in the VT Pick-the-Winner contest. Oh wait, The Citadel is not one of the teams in the contest, even though they are one of only two undefeated teams in NCAA Division I Volleyball.

Strength of Schedule (according to figstats) of 323. Once you start conference play, you really don't have much control over that. But that must have been a super soft pre-conference schedule to have SoS that poor. I don't see how they could possibly earn an at large bid if they don't win the AQ for their conference. Zero matches on their schedule with an opponent even sniffing the top 100. They could go 30-1 on the season and not make the post-season. Would that be some sort of obscure record? I'm so sorry your lousy team isn't undefeated. Your jealousy and bitterness are understandable, but you shouldn't let your team's failures cause you to be so petty.
